The Enable High Idle Saga Continues!
First off, as you can see this is my first post. I have been lurking here at TDR since I bought my 2002 QC Auto 4X4 SB (had been looking for a 5 speed, but couldn’t pass the deal on this one) in August.

Got to say TDR is GREAT!!! This is my first experience owning a Diesel, and I have learned much about maintenance, and operation of D/C Turbo Diesel here. I hope to be able to contribute to TDR and pass any knowledge or experiences I have on to others.
After learning about the Cold High Idle ‘Feature’ that the D/C has. I printed off a copy of the TSB and trotted down to my local Dodge Dealer. Having read all the stories here, I just knew I was going to have fun getting this done. So I go in TSB in hand and tell them I want to have this enabled. The Service Writer says ‘That’s a neew one on me,. But we will get you taken care of. ’ I knew I was in trouble, so I explained to him that my truck should not need to be flashed and should simply need to have the option enabled. (Highlighted the instructions on the TSB to enable it). So I watch my truck go into the service bay, 40 min. later here comes the tech. ‘Your truck just needed to be flashed your ready to go!’ So I say, “Did you Enable the High Idle option after you flashed?’ After a quizzical look the tech says, ‘Yeah. ’ So I said ‘After you completed the flash, You went in with the Scan Tool and Enabled the Cold Idle Feature?’ He said, ‘Your ready to go’ (Translation, you don’t’ have a clue what you are talking about, bye). Off I go, knowing it is not going to work.
Two Days Later I stop in and say to the service writer that the High Idle is not working and can we check to make sure that it is enabled. After a lengthy :-{} He storms off and comes back with the tech. Another round of :-{} and the tech carts me back to the MDSII Computer and pulls up the TSB. Says see here it says to Flash it and here it says it doesn’t work until 15 F. So I smile take his mouse and scroll up and show him that it is to kick in at 30 F, then down and show him that the option has to be enabled. The service writer just walks away. After a lot more :-{} they said ‘ You will need to leave it over night when the temp is below 15 F and we will check it out.

So I leave.
Next Day I drive 25 miles (one way) to a 5 star dealer, Go in and tell them my story and ask if I can watch the tech. ‘Nope can’t do that insurance’, But 10 min later they come out and say ‘You were right, it just needed to be enabled’ Next day Start her up and after a min hear her ramp up to 1200 RPM

, Will be cold enough for 3 Cyl Shutdown again this week, can’t wait to here that. (and get a warm cab in a hurry)
Oo. (No charge from eithere dealer)
Sorry for the long post, just had to share. Thanks again guys for helping a newbie out, looking forward to learning a lot more here at TDR. First purchase for the truck is going to be a FP guage, can't decide what to get or where to put it.
TDR is GRrrrrrrrreat
Oh as a side note, might just be the cold weather, but since the flash (not enable) I seem to have lost about 1. 5 MPG, any ideas? Truck has 18,000 on it.
