I'm like veryone else. Trying to find a good muffler w/o a lot of noise-drone whatever. I bought the Diamond Eye complete 4" turbo back system and I think the muffler sounds like wet fart. So I took out the muff and tried the Donaldson. I read a post on here about someone having some vibrating issues w/ this muffler and that's what I got too. From the end of the head pipe back is where it starts. I think that muffler itself creates more noise then what's coming out of the tail pipe. Who knows? I don't but after this I'm gonna straight pipe it. At least I know how that sounds (loud). Anybody want a Donaldson for free?

Did you have any drone issues with the Diamond-Eye muffler? I had the MBRP system on for about a month and the drone was horrible towing the horse trailer.

Try a Nelson 86131M muffler 51" long 4" straight through design. Doug Leno runs one I believe and so do a lot of other guys. Not sure of the Donaldson equivalent. You can do a search on nelson mufflers and can find the exact specs.

The DE muffler sounded ok at idle and had no sound untill the throttle was pegged or above 2200 + - rpm. With our fiver on, it howled pretty good. I just wasn't happy with the tone; Wanted more diesel like.

The Donaldson, for whatever reason, caused the entire system to vibrate. The can was basically under the bed and like I said before, I could hear the can moan and groan over the tailpipe. Odd I thought.

Tonight, I welded up a straight pipe and put it on. I think it sounds more diesel like but it is definatley louder outside. I can hear it more inside the cab over the DE but when at higher RPM's it's quieter inside than the DE. At least my wife says so.

The DE was a good buy. Stainless (409) with tip, $350. But after the Donaldson muffler and the new aluminized 4" tubing for the straight pipe setup, I now have $550 into it. Should have just changed it to a straight pipe from the get go.

Oh well, it's only money. Right?

the 3rd gens just don't sound good with a louder performance exhaust on them. They either need to be ultra quiet or straight piped (even then they don't sound as good as earlier trucks, but at least they sound decent)

but they sound like crud with a free flowing aftermarket muffler unless it's dead quiet

Forrest is right. I think the 12v's sound the best. My brother's '93 is straight piped with a '01 tailpipe. It is the sweetest sounding truck around. You're not sneaking around in that rig.

Youy're 100% right about the 12 valve. As long as I don't get stopped, I'll keep the straight.
