4 wheel disc?

Need some help on decideing the truck which is best for me-and fun to drive. Been looking at the HO Cummins and was wondering what it would be like to run 33" tires with the gears of a 3. 55 diff? Does the 4. 10 have a quicker acceleration? Can you cruise in 5th at 65? I guess it can take the same mods of an ETC? Will the Edge comp follow the powerband of the ETH? Could you tow with the HO with a comp and stage III injectors and an HX40(16cm)? Any help would be very good. UPDATE on sig, but my hopes are up.

If I was buying a 2500 series truck, I'd definitely get 4. 10's. That'll allow a much greater range of tires sizes to choose from.

The tires on my 3500 are 32" (225/70-19. 5) and with 4. 10's it's a little on the short side (hence why I have an overdrive unit). But with 35's, it'd be perfect.

I have an '01 eth dee, with 3. 55's and 315's (35's) I have had her up to 17000# and no problem with the gearing. at 2000 rpm I am at an actual 75 MPH. I like my combination.

I do have a 2500 and I run 33x12. 50x16. 5 tires on 9. 75 wheels. I have the 4. 10s and I pull on a regular occasion right now due to improvements around here.

@ 2000 RPM I am runing 70 MPH

My Dad has a 3500 with 3. 55 and his is just a little shy on acceleration but not enough to matter.

If I wasa in your shoes I would go 4. 10 with the 6 speed due to the versatility of the 2500 and power band

The injectors should swap over from ETC -> ETH

The clutch is the only thing that needs immediate attention when going to the DD3s and The Comp Box.

Other than that I wold say it is a personal preference.

I Love my truck the way it is I wouldn't trade it for nothing

is that in 5th gear or 6th gear? the largest tire I will pu on are 285/75/16 and I am looking for good acceleration and a good crusing speed (70). can you cruise at say 65 in fifth at what rpm's with 4. 10?

2000 RPM with 4. 10's is close to 60 mph in 6th or 2300@70mph

2000 rpm with 3. 55's is right on 70 mph in 6th. The sweet spot on the ISB is 1900-2000 rpm.

Get the 3. 55's and use 6th on the flat and 5th on the really steep hills. There is no need to wind it out 2450 rpm to keep up with traffic at 75 mph.

Keep in mind that I have a TQ peak of 794 FT*LBF at 1950 RPM.

this is with the stock tires

I have a 01 5spd with 315/75-16's and the 3:55 and a PE comp box and it flies. It cruises over a 6,000 foot mountain pass in fifth gear at 70mph with 3,000 lbs in the back. It totally blows my mind. Oh ya, it also has a straight pipe and one of those huge paper air filters from Napa and it just turned 5,000 miles. I think unless you haul alot of weight I'd stay with the 3:55's.

4.10 v. 3.54 debate

Hi SixShooter, et. al.

I have the ETH/DEE and love it except for the 4. 10's. I have found that 75 MPH is approximately 2500 RPM's in sixth gear with 31. 7" tires. With 35's, it would be about 2250 or so. Unless you tow often, stick with the 3. 54's.

Remember this: If you find yourself in the wrong gear, you can always downshift into 5th. You can't upshift into 7th!!

Well, actually you can upshift to 7th! :D A US Gear 20% overdrive (a future addition for us) would give the best of both worlds. 4. 10 for towing, gear-splitting options while towing, and 3. 28 for running unloaded. Just a thought... .

I have an 01 HO. with 3. 54 gears. I have the factory size tires and 2wd. I drove a TDR brother's truck with the 4. 10s, I liked it. He said he loves it for towing but he ain't real crazy on the idea bobtailing at 70-75 mph on the freeway empty. We talked at our last meeting and I think I will keep the 3. 55, I can always gear down to 5th if needed and the fuel mileage is super unloaded.
