poor man's TAG update

14 mm main bolt

Ok... I have a couple of questions concerning the FASS fuel system... I have been considering purchasing a FASS for my 99 but when I was looking at the prices for these units on ADT's site... I noticed that they offer 2 different models... FASS standard and FASS extreme... . I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference between these 2 units are aside from $40??... Additionally I have seen several members post about changing the pressure on the unit but I didnt see any posts on how this is accomplished or even if it needs to be done at all... ... Brad also said that there is a 1/8" npt fitting on the back of the unit for attaching a fuel pressure gauge but I am not sure if mounting the fuel pressure sending unit in that location will yield an accurate reading or if I will need to rig up a fitting closer to the vp44... Any information on these subjects would be greatly appreciated

And another FASS question. .

How well is the FASS unit sealed?

Will it hold up while driving on rainy wet roads when being constantly blasted w/ water?

FASS questions

there is a spot to put fuel pressure on the pump seems to work fine mine carries 18psi with no mods to the pump. have heard that over 17 or18 psi trucks are hard starting because of pressure but have not seen this myself. setting the pressure is easy enough if you get one and need to change it pm me or ask the dealer they should tell you. as for being sealed does goood here in the cold wet slush and snow.

You can use the port on the FASS pump because there is nothing between it and the vp to slow the fuel down. I don't know about the diff. pumps offered by ADT. About being sealed they are made for class 8 trucks so I would not be worried about that.

when you talk to ADT (Doug) he also sells an-fittings to T inline just before the vp-44. the T has a 1/8 npt outlet that i hooked my same hose and sending unit to for my fuel pressure gauge. the return line fitting can be removed on the fass and a longer spring installed for more pressure. it comes with a 14lb. spring and my pressure never drops more than a pound. i also bought a 20lb. spring and had them send it with the kit but never used it. just call and talk to doug,he'll take care of you, excellent service!

I spliced a Tee into nthe line 3' back from the vp44 and installed my fuel pressure sender there. Mine came with the 10 PSI spring and after a call to Brad he sent me the 18psi spring. Cannot do any better than this system I believe.

You don't have to worry about anything with the FASS system, I've driven in the rain, snow, have 4 inches of ice stuck around it right now. This thing was made to mount on the inner fender well af a semi, so I don't think you will have any problems. I use no fuel heater of any type, truck started perfect about 10 minutes ago at about 0 without being pluged in:rolleyes: can't believe I forgot to do that. Put it on and enjoy:D

Theres alot of good info here - Thank You.

Actually, I already bought the system, but had a hard time getting it to fit on my 2000 Quad cab Short bed.

The only way I could find to mount it w/ the supplied bracket was drilling through the rear cab support instead of the bed support, but didnt feel comfortable about it because that support isnt very strong looking even without drilling through it... Still checking mounting options.

After reading & reading lift pump posts, & problems w/ the different solutions, it still looks like FASS the way to go.

ShortShift, Did you get the right mount with your kit. They make the ones for the long bed which I am told are different from the short bed trucks. Call FASS and ask him about it.

Don

Cuda, I will make the call to find out.

If there are seperate brackets, I will post it here, but I think it is just 1 bracket for either the long or short beds.

I have to say Brad was a real nice guy to talk with, and was extremely helpful on the phone.

AM, Tnx for the confirmation.

Ended up w/ the stinkin' flu over the weekend, so will have to wait until next weekend to mount the thing.

love my FASS

Put one on my 02 after the Lp failed at 19000 mi. I streached the spring slightly and see 12 psi constant. 549 $$$ @ piers

fass

I just replaced my LP for the second time. Both under warranty. I am interrested in the FASS but I see no reason to buy it before my warranty is up in two years. By that time we should know if it has the longevity that we are looking for.

But I do have a question. Is there a reason that it only puts out 10 or 12 PSI. My OEM puts out 14 at idle and 11 or 12 at cruise. Even at WOT it only drops off to 9 or 10. So whats the answere?

It can be easily adjusted for any pressure you want.

The pump flows alot of volume, so even down at 10 psi on idle, when you go wide open throttle, the pressure, only drops by 1 lb or so.

Actually, I think I prefer the lower pressure settings so you dont get a leak in the Injection pump, and you should have quicker starts.
