Rod's Pod
OK, had several PM's about what I'd do a bit different. Guess I didn't want to type anymore last night than what I already had done. Here's the details...
What I'd do different is really very minor.
The instructions specify the locations to drill for the 4 wafer head screws. The location specified for the bottom 2 is fine, bit the top 2 are specified as 3/8" from the back edge of the Rod's Pod and 3/8" from the side edge of the Rod's Pod. This is cosmetically the best choice, but the 3/4" or so long screws come in contact with the plastic dash structure (not the bezel) if they are only 3/8" from the back edge. This causes the bezel/Rod's Pod combo to not seat tightly as it should against the dash at the top edge. I had already drilled holes, so I made it fit snugly by removing some of the plastic of the dash structure where the screws were contacting. If I had to do over, I would have moved the screws out another 1/8" or so. That would put the top screws location 3/8" from the side and ~1/2" from the back edge of the Rod's Pod.
The other thing I'd watch is related to drilling the two bottom screw holes. I drilled a larger hole in the Rod's Pod and then a smaller one in the bezel for the wafer screws. I first drilled the holes in the Rod's Pod and then used the Rod's Pod to locate the two holes in the bezel as I drilled them. I ended up with the holes in the bezel a bit too close together and the bottom edge of my Rod's Pod sags down ever so slightly. Note that this is only very slightly sagging down (see pic above), but it is enough so that the bottom edge of the Rod's Pod covers over the symbols on the heater control just a bit. Moving the two holes in the bezel just slightly apart would cause a bit of tension on the bottom of the Rod's Pod - probably just enough to keep the bottom pulled straight/taut and thus not covering the heater control symbols.
I'd like to say that I think these are VERY MINOR things I'd do differently the next time. All in all, I am very pleased with the Rod's Pod and the final outcome and I wholeheartedly recommend this product.
