Camper marker lights hook up?

Delivering RV's

Looking at charts in lastest TDR mag. It looks like the 2001 and later 3500 4x4 QC have a GCVWR of 21500.

Mine a y2k has a GCVWR of 21000.

Just wondering if anyone knew how they got that extra 1500lbs?

Could just rear disk brakes do that much?

I know I'm stuck with what I have but just wondering.

Thanks

Issue 35 notwithstanding, when I ordered my 2002, the 3500 ETH/DEE with 4. 10 rear axle was rated at 21,500 GCVWR in both 4x2 and 4x4 versions. My 4x2 has a 21,500 GCVWR shown on the window sticker. The same trucks with 3. 54 rear axle were rated at 20,000 GCVWR.

Whoops!

I didn't read what I wrote... duh

My truck is 20,000 GCVWR... So I still wondering what all they did to get 21500.

Two theories for the 21,500 GCVWR with the 4. 10's:

1. The increased mechanical advantage of the 4. 10's lessens loadings on the drivetrain upstream of the ring & pinion. Lower torsional loading of the u-joints, driveshafts, transmission input & output shafts, clutch, etc. could allow the engineers to increase the GCVWR with the 4. 10's. Same reason the automatic transmission experts say the transmission's life is made easier with 4. 10's.

2. This ETH/DEE/4. 10 package is a marketing tool to give Dodge a truck with a GCVWR rating that's somewhat competitive with the 22,000 GCVWR of the Chevy/GMC HD's.

Thanks

Thanks Rusty,

Wish the D-Max would of been out in 2000,maybe Dodge would of gave mine a little more GW rating. (G).

The 1500lbs would help me a lot. Oh well. . this truck has been kind of a disappointment in other areas as well.

CAnderson,

Probably a lot of my disapointment is I expected too much.

I had a 3/4T Chev Crew cab. . we pulled the old trailer with. . 4spd,454,4:10,

When I bought this truck, thought it would be much better. It wasn't.

Transmission went out at about 10,000miles. . new one under warranty, clutch out at 19,000 new one under warranty, guess I'm afraid to trust it.

I now have 275 injectors, and an EZ it pulls much better. It would sure be nice to have a little more GCVWR on it,so I could be

"plumb legal". (G).
