I've got the tsb on timing this Dodge. Since I put in a new #6 fuel pump plate. I need to re time it for more of everything. If this is right, what would be the required timing? Thanks to some very helpful TDR members I got this TSB and a friend who has the dial indicators etc to do the job. Several questions I have are (1) what do I retime the engine to for this #6 plate. (2) the tsb calls for replacing the deliverey valve washers. At $15 a piece I calculate 6 times 15 or $90. Is this necessary? Any other tid-bits of information would be appreciated.

Here is a link to the timing specs. Once you decide what you want to time it at just follow the chart to find the lift spec for your engine.

You don't have to retime it just because you installed a plate. The delivery valve washers can be reused,I haven't had a problem yet,but if unsure just pick one up. You only need to remove the #1 valve,so you need only the one washer. Check around on the price,it seems a little steep.

Do a search on timing, and you'll find all kinds of info as to what to set it at. Mine is at 16,and works well for what I have. Most guys seem to like 15 for the auto's and 16 for a stick.

Installing a governor spring kit will also help wake the truck up,and if you do you can run a bit more timing for the higher RPM's.

Re: Timing

Big Ram guy. Thanks for the information. You've clear up a lot. I've only meet a handful of people from Canada and every one of you folks have been super nice. Thanks

P. S. My Dodge (Bart = Big A** Red Truck) came out of Canada. Before I got it I had "carfax.com" run the vin number. That's how I learned this, beside the Maple leaf on the door frame. DMV here in California was sure confused when they couldn't find the EPA sticker. Seems that Canada is just full of great stuff. One day I hope to come up there and see it. :) :)

Thanks for the compliments. :) Just trying to help.

We have lots of good stuff up here, snow, hockey, cold weather, diesels, and real beer (5-6%),and if you ever coming up just let me know,i'll show you around.

BEER

I like snow skiing :D , don't care for hockey :( , love beer:D :D :D I'll check out the travel companion for your information if you're there. I am. I'll take you up on the tour guide status when we come up some day soon. John

hey BigRamGuy,

Since you mentioned hockey, wasn't it nice to saee Mario win a Gold medal. The guy is great at hockey and many other things too. I had mixed emotions druing the game. It might have been nice for the US to win the gold but I was glad for Mario because this was his last chance.

Most of the later pumps don't have washers. however, it is a good idea to have a spare green o-ring to seal the delivery valve holder. Sometimes it tears when you unscrew the holder to pull the delivery valve to set timing.

Your Ram should have 14 deg. Not to bad. you would get a bit less torque, more high rpm power, and maybe a bit more mpg at 15. 5 deg.

Yes,it was kinda nice, the Canadian Team has been trying for sooooo long. It was so tough,a lot of good players on both the US and Canadian teams, and a lot of my favorites on the US side, would be nice if they both could win it.

It was also kinda cool for Gretzky,as he has done just about everything else but... . won a gold medal, last time he was so dejected. I know he didn't actually get one this time..... but it was still good to see him involved.
