Gotta love a good junkyard. Here's what I found today. Finally found a dually bed with the marker light parts I've needed. The no longer available curved rubber gasket that fits between the fiberglass dually fender and the light base. Got all four. The four light bases, the four wiring protectors, tire side of the fender, the bases screw into them. Daniel Puckett has a driver side dually fender for me, I'm probly gonna go pick it up soon. Then the dually will find its way to a body shop.

Picked up another 3" intake horn off an industrial 5. 9 with an industrial grid heater  , thats for my DTR buddies that insist industrial 5. 9's have heater grids :-laf . Its the spacer that the intake horn sits on, same dimensions as our grid heater but no element, just straight through. Lastly picked up a 3 1/2" outlet compressor elbow. This will make an install of a hx35 or hx40 on a nonIC'd engine a breeze- get the idea from the last pic.

ONly problem with that 90 deg elbow is that the angles don't match up well... that's why I didn't use one for my conversion... .

You know what I'm interested in Bill... .....

Hey, if you put a glowplug into that spacer will that be enough to act like a mini grid heater????

Yep, I'll get one out to you here in a few days, pm or email your mailing address.

You mean it wouldn't line up like 'Partsman's' setup?? This is the same elbow he has. First I would flip around the intake manifold, so the intake horn is straight across from the turbo, slightly more closer to the radiator. Place this 3" horn facing the turbo. Clock the hx35,40 so the 90 elbow point to the intake horn. 3" pipe with 2 intercooler or silicone hose/boots, clamps so on and so forth.

whose aftercooler is that, bill? you ever see those in the jy?

It belongs to TDR member Zach or 'Partsman'. No I haven't seen one on a B series at all. If I did, I'd grabbed it up quick. I'm figuring I would I have to find an old engine, like pre 90's (VE powered, which I've only seen p-pumped 5. 9's) for an air to water aftercooler. Then cores are sold so quick to rebuilders, you have to get parts off them quick or its gone. I try to stop in at least once a month. There's another place in town I haven't checked out, they advertise on auto-rv selling pumps and whole engines. I'd like to see if they sell parts. Just haven't made it up there.

Bill, ya gotta start looking at tractors, school buses, and the such to find those type of intercoolers. Industrial engines and such. I don't think they are as effective as a air-to-air aftercooler, because the inlet air is cooled by engine coolant, and you know it always hoovering around 190, and on a hard pull coolant temp goes up.

I think it would be a good idea where you did not have room for a ATA aftercooler, or where I really don't want another cooler on my 90 to poke holes in out 4 wheeling.

There is a picture of the OEM aftercooler in my readers rigs photo album. If they were the best method to cool the charge air... . well..... they just don't use things like this for on highway aplications much any more.

Partsman's truck was originally being built as a puller... . hense the cooler w/ice water tank.

You will need the fuel injection lines to acompany the aftercooler. ;) I had one here but pitched it. It had sprung a leak and was acting as a water injection unit.

Yep, industrial uses, backhoes, pay loaders, bulldozers. We have them at work. Larger machines for 5. 9's. Case loaders, 621,721, 821, and dozers,650, 750, 850. I think they would restrict air on high flow systems, like twins, etc.

Bill,,,, My outlet on the turbo is off of A ford, I KNOW, I KNOW A FORD!!!! but it's true, and if anyone would like the part # let me know Ill get it for ya. altho that is some very nice pieces you found.

The aftercooler isnt cooled from the coolant, it's a stand alone set up, I have a tank in the bed of the truck, and a 12v water pump to flow the water. I wanted to try it on the dyno to see the diffrence but had issues with the water pump but I have a new one now. here are some pic's.

Oh, I see now, you aren't using engine coolant like the OEM would use. That makes a lot of sense. Do you see a big difference on the pyro if there is ice in the tank or ambient temp water? I'll bet there is a difference but its pretty short lived, as in you couldn't rely on it for an all day towing trip or such. Or am I off base here?

Air to Air aftercoolers in front of the radiator must be the way to go as all the new OEM have gone away to the water cooled aftercooler.

FWIW-On Cat engines, air-to-air aftercooler is in front of the radiator. Jacket Water aftercoolers are like whats pictured. I think John Deere calls them intercoolers.

Yes I know. I just need to find a school bus and or tractor junkyard:D. This cooler would be a competition part. $325 new from Cummins. I'm sure there are many comp folks that would be interested in one of these coolers if I came across one, myself included. I wouldn't be afraid to put one on a non-IC'd engine either. My truck runs at 170*F. This would be better than no cooling of the air.

Maybe all the VE powered aftercooled 5. 9's just keep going:D, thats why I haven't found one.

Thanks Ken. Somebody's been junkyard hunting. Wonder if it leaks... I spoke with KTA tonight, he said he would run just plain ole water on the highway in the cooler and has a auto transmission cooler inline with it, to keep it cool.
