I have a '99 with 21000 miles. No problems yet. Very concerned about lift-pump after all I've read and heard! Getting ready to check fuel pressures as soon as I can get the gauge mounted. Does anyone know what the pumps that have failed look like on the inside? What is causing the failures? I heard we just need to put a pre-filter between the tank and the lift-pump? My thinking is that might just make it worse if distance is the problem. How 'bout a pusher-pump and pre-filter combo?

Oh yeah, this is my first post, hope I am doing everything right and in line. Sould have joined when I first got my truck! My thanks to all of you!

I opted to not add another filter since restrictions are already abundant in the system as it is. Get your fuel pressure gauge and see where you are at now. Then decide if you need to panic like i did.

check pressure!

Definately check your fuel pressure - mine was "0" and up until the last couple days I didn't realize it was going!!! Fuel pressure gauge should be standard equipment. Ray

JE Moore--this lift pump issue is really still under some serious R&D--some guys are using two pumps and others using one aftermarket pump and it will take some time to figure out what is the best set up(I believe that there has to be one pump that will work, but am happy to see guys R&Ding the two pump setup to test it's validity),

back to the question--I would think that most of us agree that the pump is to far from the tank, as electric pumps are pushers not suckers and that's one of the reason's for their early death--the other reason is when our trucks are turned on we only get partial amps to the pump to run it(prime the system if you will) and when we crank to start we get full amp, so this change in amps could be part of the problem too---others have had crap in the pumps which is self explainable--

I think only a couple of pumps have been torn into and one I remember had crap(plastic shavings, if I remember correctly)in the pump----chris
