BOUGHT A 98. 5 24V CAUSE I NEEDED A MORE DEPENDABLE TOW RIG... I GUESS I MIGHT NOT HAVE GOT WHAT I NEEDED!!! SO YOU GUYS HAVE GOT ME RUNNIN' SCARED AS I HAVE SMELLED A FAINT ELECTRICAL SMELL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS DESCRIBED IN ONE THREAD AS A PRECURSER TO VP44 FAILURE AND THINK I MAY BE DOWN ON POWER. OF COURSE MY WARANTEE IS 7/75K AND I HAVE 86900 ON THE TRUCK.

QUESTION#1: IT APPEARS I CAN MEASURE PRESSURE OFF THE TOP TWO PIPE PLUGS ON THE FILTER HOUSING... IS THIS CORRECT?

QUESTION #2: IS IT TRUE THE VP44 WILL MAKE AN ELECTRIC SMELL BEFORE IT FAILS

I don't know about the burnt wire smell, but yes you can read the fuel pressure from the 1/8 NPT ports on top of the fuel filter.

However I do not think this will tell you anything about your injector pump.

Check the pressure at the fuel filter from both ports at WOT and see what PSI your lift pump is running. If your lift pump goes bad it will eventually cause your injector pump to fail.

Good Luck
