My 2002 3500 had it's first lift pump replaced under warranty at 24,000 miles. Now at 40,000 miles the pressure readings have become quite erratic. I can travel 150 miles with a solid 14 pound reading and then for the next 50 miles have the gauge jumping between 2 pounds and 10 pounds. Shut the truck off have coffee and we're back to solid 14 pounds. Fill it with fuel and within 50 miles 2 to 10 pounds. Fill it with fuel the next time and solid 14 pound readings. Totally inconsistant and unpredictable.
Understandably ( and quite typically) the dealership can't get it to perform it's fluctuation tricks and have suggested that until I can get it to perform for them they simply can't replace the lift pump based on my observations.
So each trip becomes one of wondering if this is the time that the lift pump will pack it in and leave me sitting on the side of the road.
Anybody else experienced this type of frustration?
