I work for a government agency that does Oil Samples for all of our fleet vehicles... . So, I spoke with one of our technicians, and he was cool enough to send out a sample of my truck oil for me. I now have 99,787 miles on my 2003 and was (Still am too) concerned that I may be getting coolant into my oil. This is my first oil sample... . Still don't know why I waited so long to do one? However, my concerns have grown with some of the results I was informed of today.

I was told that I have fuel dilution, plain and simple diesel in my oil. I changed my oil last Friday for the first time since May, and the oil had about 9,000 miles on it. I use Amsoil 15w-40 heavy duty marine / diesel oil, and I used it since my truck turned 20,000 miles.

I should also mention that I had all six injectors replace about 5,000 miles ago. My truck had the ever so common ROUGH IDLE. The technician at my dealership told me two injectors were bad, but he got all six replaced for me (Great dealership and mechanic). I was very pleased about this. Now, here are my questions.....

Is it possible that I have another injector issue, or another fuel problem? Is it possible that since I never changed my oil since I had the bad injectors replaced that the oil is contaminated from before my repairs? What else could be causing fuel to get into my oil... . Injection pump? I'm just shocked at these results, because my truck is running GREAT! I have no power issues and no smoke (Except when my Smarty is cranked up)... ... ?

I have already made an appointment to get my truck into the dealership on this Friday, because I only have a little more than 200 miles left on the engine warranty.

Info please!

Thanks

The tech should have recommended a oil change. Hard to know if you have issues now. Sorry to hear you are so close on running out your warranty. Do you monitor the dip stick?

I agree with you... . In fact the dealership should have done the oil change in my opinion. Yes, I always check my dip stick. The oil level has not raised any, and the oil smells O. K.

Anyone else?

Thanks!

TK,

In the absence of anything pointing to the contrary, I'd be inclined to assume the diesel got into the oil possibly because of the old bad injectors or during the injector replacement. I'd just change the oil and have it tested again at the next replacement interval to try and establish a trend. If diesel keeps showing up in the oil, then I'd start trying to nail down where and why.

One test doesn't help you much in this situation.

Best of luck to you,

John L.

Change the oil and resample after a thousand miles or so. If you never changed the oil after having new injectors installed, that's where the oil came from. Seems to me that it would be pretty hard to swap injectors without getting a little diesel in the oil.

Thanks John..... It seems like every time I have an issue, you have an answer. Why don't I just call you instead of wasting my time typing all the time?... LOL Seriously, thanks for always taking the time to offer advise. I love TDR, I get more support and help from this site than I could ever get from a dealership!

Thanks Again John!
