THIS is the info I was looking for:) Thanx a ton guys. A 3k will be awesome. I run out of steam completely at exactly 2200rpm, then the transmission starts bucking hard and shuttering.

Again, I want just enough power to tow up to 75mph up moderate to large hills, nothing more.

Will the 3gsk be enough or is the Banks WG "git kit" needed?

**New thread soon about this damn transmission, I'm worried about the stock Dodge auto next:(

JT I have an auto, with a set of Bosch 300 injectors and the stock cam plate moved about 3/4 of the way forward it made my truck a lot more of a towing machine than when it was stock. When stock it couldn't hold speed up a grade and forget about trying to pass someone on a 2 lane road.

I also have done 215 injectors with a #10 plate in the middle, a little less power but lower EGT. Anyway with either combo I wasn't lacking for power towing my travel trailer (20 foot 1968 Terry) 60-65 up pretty steep grades and 70+ on lighter grades.

The 300 and 215 injectors are fairly inexpensive if you can find them used, there are some to be found on eBay too. Same thing for the #10 plate, or if you look around here on the board you can grind your own plate for some free HP.

I forgot to add, I've done all my towing with these power upgrades without doing a darned thing to the transmission, except I changed the oil once. Have towed quite a few miles. Virgin transmission has 186,000 miles on it, so far it's doing OK. One biggie is when you're getting on it or taking off with a load is to upshift it manually. . . get the RPM up. I upshift at around 22-2600 RPM, not the stupid 1600 RPM Dodge has programmed. And don't use OD until you can keep the RPM above about 1700, that'll help it (and keep from getting EGT too high).

Vaughn, sounds good.
When you say you were able to keep it at 60-65 up steep grades, I'm almost able to do it now bone stock. What did that trailer weigh? Bumper pull or gooseneck/5th wheel?
What transmission fluid are you using?
Thanx

I have a 20-foot travel trailer bumper pull, 1968 Terry which is a little heavier than newer ones. Don't know what it weighs. Also pulled those speeds with 24' enclosed trailer with about 1500 lbs in it (weighed in around 11,400 counting truck). Not towing a bunch of weight but then isn't small stuff either.

Trans doesn't have anything special in it, whatever the transmission shop used.

PM me if you are interested in some slightly used 215's.

One should be careful with such offers. The last time I got some 'slightly used' 215 injectors, I ran them 150K miles before having them reset. I'm still running them. (But they are approaching end-of-life. ) :D :D

In case the smilies aren't enough, I'm being jocular! If HS' price seems fair, buy them! The truck'll wake up even with the stock plate.

A 3K GSK can be got from almost any dealer (brick or internet); BD Power, Enterprise Engine, Scheid, Haisley, PDW, and Cyclone are a few examples.

#10 plates are running around $65 on ebay. A "3000 spring kit" is running around $170 on Ebay.
