I had pulled the power steering pump, cleaned it all up and thought everything was good till then I noticed a pretty nasty leak between the psp and the vacuum pump. I am afraid that I may have done something to the oil seal in the pump. Is there an easy fix to this, should I pull the power steering pump and reseat it, or did I just make for an even more expensive fix. Any help on this would be great. Man I am starting to get frustrated.

Cummins sells a seal kit, I think it was about $10. Part # 4089742. It comes with a vac pump to gear case gasket, a seal, a couple o-rings and very good instructions. Not a hard job, I did mine without removing th PSP, but if I have to do it again I might. There is a Saginaw universal rebuild kit for the PSP if you are interested. I got it thru another source so all I know is that they are sold in auto parts places. There are three numbers on the package; 7910, 350390 and 8776029.

Thanks for the help. I went to the dealer to ask them what they wanted for the kit and they priced it at 69 bucks. Does anyone know how the kit compares to the kit that you can get on the website www.fixinrams.com. I am sort of on a short time frame to get it fixed but also want to do it right. thanks for the help.

The seal kit Fixin Rams has is the Cummins seal kit. I don't think the other stuff if worth another $50:eek: I just calledCummins Southern Plains in Ft. Worth. They have 4 in stock, $8. 08 and they will ship. 800-933-0031. Do like I did and get two, so I have a spare if it goes together right and a replacement if the 1st time breaks an o-ring or cuts the seal.

Cummins NW in Anchorage # is 800-478-3646 According to my PC miler that's only 15 miles away. I didn't call them.

better check that, my buddy just did his with the seal from FIXIN rams, the seal is different, the Dodge seal is an o-ring the will cause the pump shaft to get a groove and leak, the FIXIN seal is different, it straddles the groove and seals on either side of it, more like a wheel seal.

Thanks for all the help guys. I ordered one from fixinrams.com and it should get here tomorrow. He said that his is a double lipped seal which prevents that groove and is not so prone to going out. Oh, I know where NW Cummins is, I have provided them with a few extra pennies that is for sure. Again thanks for all the help.

The picture on their website shows a Cummins logo package. It could be the one from Dodge is different. I don't buy anything from Dodge I don't have to. I have the $8 seal kit in my hand. It has a double lip.

I got the kit from fixinrams.com today and the only seal that is the cummins factory seal is the one that goes between the vacuum pump and the engine. On another note. I was trying to take the vacuum pump off and the the top bolt is not like the others. The bottom bolt is 15 mm but the top is not. 15 is a little to big and 14 is to small. I just can't believe that they would be different. I am going to have to track down a 14. 5 tomorrow to see if I can get it off without stripping it. Man, i am fully frustrated now. #@$%!

I think it may be trouble as well. The last thing I want to do is strip that bolt. Man, this is getting to be a pain in the butt.

AAARRRGGHHH!!!! I did try 9/16th. I have tried all my sockets and wrenches. All of my 9/16ths are just barely to small. The 15 mm are just a little to big. I guess it is time to improvise a little bit. Although maybe it will just fall out if I keep banging my head against my truck like I am doing now.

Here's a trick from my helicopter mechananican days. Coat the head of the bolt with bearing grease. Apply some sand to said grease and see if that fills enough of the 15 mm space to break loose the bolt. Do not reuse the bolt.

I too just got the kit from the local cummins dealer for $8. I am in the middle of fixing it and am not sure what direction the double lip seal goes. From the instructions, it is hard to tell what direction it goes. Doesn't the side with the visable spring face the fluid side?

Well I finally got it all installed and that darn bolt off. I used some old metal gap tester strips when that didn't work I tries something else, go buy a brand new socket. Amazingly enough it was tight enough of a fit to get it off. After testing 2 different sockets and 2 different 15 mm wrenches that 3rd socket worked. I have never seen anything like that but oh well what are you going to do, and I got it fixed. After that and some other small hiccups and knuckle scrapes it is all finished. Thanks for all the help guys.
