More Power with a Puck?

Can anyone set me straight? I have found that the Diablo Sport puck offers the same HP vs torque as the EZ but cost about 100 dollars less. Does anyone have any ideas whether this is a good elect. package. I did like the fact that I could use my home computer to taylor the modules performance. Sounded like a benefit to me. Help!

A few people have posted with problems on the Puck. A very few people have posted with problems on the EZ. I'm just going from memory, but my perception was that the Manufacturer of the EZ jumped all over it and made things right. And the other 98% of EZ owners seemed happy from day 1.



I sent an e-mail with questions to the EZ folks, and got same-day or next day replies. I did the same with the Puck, trying to verify if I could tweak timing myself, or if the "custom PC mapping" applied only to some other Diablo products, because the web site wasn't 100% clear. I don't believe I ever got a response from Diablo. Could be my fault - wrong address, or server problems at my end (wouldn't be the first time).



I like the description of the Puck, but I recommend you do your own test, contacting both companies. Also check around for best prices, sometimes you find a sale. There's even a few used EZ's around as some go to more aggressive fueling boxes - but for my money I'd just get a new one 'cause it's worth having exactly the right one for your truck and a two year warranty, plus a 60 day "money back" guarantee. All JMO, of course.

What HC said. Some people have posted that they had problems with the Puck, turned them in and got an EZ and no more problems. Might be worth the extra $100.

If you go to Ebay and do a search for Dodge Ram or cummins you will find 6 - 8 pucks for auction on any given day. Is this a dealer selling new stock or people trying to unload them?????

The so-called "tuning" software for the puck has been promised for about a year now and constantly and consistently being pushed out. I don't beleive the product is solid and that there is ever any intention to release the software. I tried a puck once, but it certainly did not have the power or bottem-end of my old VA box. I also believe there is a reason Pucks are found all over E-bay is people are trying desperately to unload them.

You could also call a couple of vendors and tell them you want to try the boxes. They will either send you a demo unit, or have you buy the box with a 30-60 day money back offer. You really can't go wrong this way. Some people like boxes that others don't care for as much, to each his own. Try a couple and see what is right for you.



Oh, I never got a response on the tuning software from diablo either. As far as I am aware it does not exist in a consumer version yet. Hope this helps.

this is only second hand info so use it for what its worth. i remember a posting where someone said using the puck set some codes. he further said the puck was either replaced or reprogammed with a loss of power. however, there is a dealer who sometimes lists on this page and one of the two other competing sites. his name is bob( i believe) riley. he has a shop which recently opened around the orlando, fl. area (sanford, fl). i spoke with him at an earlier central florida tdr event. seemed ok to me but i do not have his product!!!!!!!! i repeat, info was second hand and reliabilty not guaranteed. bruce

Stay away from the pucks!!!!They suck!!!!Do yourself a favor go with the Edge and you will not regret it.

the ez has a built in boost module. spend another extra $100 and get the edge comp.

I have seen a couple of posts where the warranty is stated as two (2) years for the Edge EZ. I just purchased a new one and the warranty says (1) year with a 60 day no questions asked return policy. What's up with that?

I am the guy that brucew is refering to... Diablo fixed the problem.



I think I am the only one here with a Puck. Fueling is basicly the same as the EZ, and VA boxes. The tuning software is useless since the puck is shipped with the hottest program in it already... . all the software allows you to do is back off fueling a bit to eliminate smoke before the turbo spools up... . just like the jumpers on the EZ.



Diablo has two versions now... one with a Boost module, and one without (for those people that already have boost modules)



The earlier Pucks had problems setting trouble codes because they were a two way interupter unit. I have the updated one way unit, and I love it..... and NO NEW Trouble Codes



Just to give you an idea what it does, My only fueling BOMBs are the puck and 275's.



ON THE SAME DYNO, I put down 299. 6 HP, where an ETC 5spd with DD2's and an EZ put down 285, and another ETC with a DTT Auto with Bully Dog 2's and a VA put down 285. The next highest HP above me was an ETC with an Edge Comp, and a DTT preped transmission..... that truck put down 325 HP.



NOTE: I have an early 2001 ETH



My current baseline on a Mustang dyno is.



302. 3 hp@2500RPM

753 Ft*Lbf @2000RPM



Max EGT is 1100F

Max boost is 35PSI



this is applied power with no correction factor.
