Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) more power

I got a buddy that has a 2002 1 ton with 6 speed and he ask me about getting more power. He said he didnt want but about 100 hp for now and I recommended the edge ez box. Anybody know if this is a good choice or should I tell him about some other box or chip etc. to get about 100 hp. Thanks Kelly

without taping the pump wire he wont be able to get a lot from just a box.



he could do an edge EZ and some small injectors for a nice gain. for the same money and by taping the pump wire he could do just the edge comp and get bigger injectors down the road.

The max you'll get with an EZ is about 65 hp. Tapping the pump wire will yield 100+ from just a box. If tapping the pump wire is not an option, I would recommend a CATCHER and a set of Mach 1. 6 injectors.

the boxes don't work as well on the 6spd ETH H. O. engine.

from what I understand an EZ or Van Aaken will produce about 65 on a standard, and about 45 on a HO. even still it is a noticable gain and mine gets better mileage.



the HO VP-44 works a little differently, I think it has a higher pressure, but lower volume. I understand 60hp injectors will show up as 80 hp. check out the dyno's on diesel dynamics website. same injector, different HP between so and ho engines.

Go with some Formula 1 1. 6 injectors and add an edge EZ. Great combo will give wonderful power for everyday use with no trbo upgrade needed plus fuel mileage will probably go up 1-2 mpg. They are correct that a fueling box doesn't give quite the gain on an ETH truck but the EZ works great with an ETH , provides boost fooling, has the boost elbow included.

Tell your buddy to get a set of gauges before he starts Bombing, if he does not already have them. He needs to know what the truck is doing, and FUEL Pressure is the most important before adding a timing box. You don't want to have to replace a VP, big Bucks Then get a Edge Comp. If you don't tap the wire you can use it like a EZ. But then again what is the good of having all that power and not using it. Tap it, and enjoy
