Hey guys, I just put on the afe stage II, and am not all that impressed. The turbo isn't much louder (plan on taking out the silencer ring tomorrow), and really didn't notice any more power or any quiker spool up. My next mod is going to be the smarty programmer, which I hope will really crank it up. I know the smarty can't be adjusted on the fly but when I hear about the warm up option, does that mean you have to shut the truck down, and then do several things to get it back to the setting you want or can you change the settings with the truck running? Don't really know much about the operation of the programmer but from what I've read it seems like the one to get. Also if you have the smarty can you hook up other programmers on top of it to get even more power? It seems like people say things about stacking things, not really sure what that means. Also a guy at the local diesel performance shop said the smarty will blow apart the fuel system. I think he's just saying that because they don't sell them. What do you think the estimated HP would be with this setup, and do you have any other ideas as to what I could do to juice it up for a reasonable cost? The boost fooler is on the way so I will be turning up the wastegate. Which way do you turn the rod (clockwise or counterclockwise) to get higher readings? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to the 24v and am looking to gain as much knowledge as possible, and want some good power to. Thanks Again

The Smarty want blow apart the fuel system, :-laf, pull the lift pump pressure down close to 0 yes, personally I like the TST PMCR R49AP, its a flexable box and they are going to add quite a few things to it in the future. This box makes great power, as with any box you really should upgrade to an aftermarket lift pump or complete fuel system, good luck.

I think the biggest intake restriction is the air horn between the intercooler and intake manifold. I replaced mine with one by CFM+ and it made a HUGE difference in my EGTs and the amount of smoke my truck puts out with the Quadzilla box. The day after I added the intake, I added an S&B filter/airbox/intake tube set-up. I was a little disappointed with it for the same reasons you mention, just not a whole lot of noticable change over my previous "swiss cheese" airbox mod. I hear a little more whistle, and it dropped the EGTs maybe another 50 degrees but the big change came with the air horn.

Nothing wrong with the Smarty, lots of guys use them. I like my Quad for its on the fly adjustability and it is half the price of the Smarty. I also do not want more than an extra 100hp. You will start to hurt driveline parts beyond that level. I would also have to bet that the intake mods and straight pipe exhaust have bumped the power up a bit. I am probably around 450hp and 850 lb/ft on the highest setting. Plenty for me, and I normally just run on the 60hp setting anyway. It is a huge difference over stock.

Thanks guys, I removed the silencer ring today and it definately added to the whistle. What is the best air horn to get? I have looked at the banks, but I'm not a huge fan of the bright red or the price. ATS seems to make a nice one, available in black or aluminum. What do you guys recommend? Since I just bought the truck I'm not sure what the lift pump is. I don't see anything that looks like a pump around the fuel filter housing, so I think it might be in the tank. Smarty sounds good to me since I'm looking for big power. Now, for the clutch! I have read alot about this and it seems that the south bend is the way to go (have it in both of our 12v), but I want it to be a friendly every day driver clutch. Seems that alot of you say that it is very noisy, and I really don't want that. I do pull a 10,000 pound trailer regulary so I want a clutch that will hold the power, but I also want it to be friendly for just normal driving. What do you guys recommend? Thanks Again, and also can anyone tell me the process of changing and adding to the smarty?

I changed the oil today and took the SMarty off and ran just my tst to try and keep the oil cleaner longer and I'll never do that again... I don't know what I'd do with out my SMARTY!!! SMOKE ON!!! My HTT HT71 Series Quick diesel 64 wouldn't light with the stock settings... I would, but damn it was a dog!!!

I went w/the banks air horn, but, this was back when banks and ats were the only two big players in town and I didn't know that much about ats. If what cfm+ can back up what they claim, they seem to be the one to go with. As far as the air filter/torque tube combo, it won't give as much as claimed. I've learned that it takes two things, as far as air is concerned, to improve power---volume and density. To improve volume, you want to mess with the turbo (bigger turbo, wastegate improvement, etc. ). To improve density, you would want to go to a bigger intercooler or improve the airflow around the intake (airhorn). Now, i've noticed that there is better efficiency around the turbo if u improve the exhaust side of things as far as the exhaust manifold and bigger exhaust beyond the turbo. I've also noticed that your filter/torque tube will do more for you truck if you improve the exhaust side of the turbo ( whatever you deem the correct way), but, that goes back to volume airflow/efficiency. I hope I didn't confuse you with my longwinded explanation. Diesel On!!!
