Turbo questions, about ordering a Dodgezilla?

Oo. Im new to the site and have been the second owner of a 99 2500 CTD since 00. Sad to say i dont know all that much about diesel ( I really want to change that). Im looking for more power and some better millage I dont need more power but I WANT more power. I think i have what every one is calling the BOMB bug. O yeah I also really like aggressive sounding trucks any help would be appreciated.

HOLY COW are you ever in trouble!! If you have any shred of being financially responsible, then RUN LIKE THE WIND before you get sucked into the diesel performance world. For kicks and giggles, you might want to head over to the "Competition" forum and read about those guys that are turning 800+ HP out the back wheels. I've only been playing around on here for a little while, but this seems to be a fairly ordinary list of BOMBs:

Gauges

Air Intake

Exhaust

Fueling/Timing Box

Injectors

Clutch or transmission Upgrades

Turbo - big single or twins

DRUGS

-Nitrous

-Propane

-Water/Meth

By the time you get doing all that, you'll know more then you ever thought possible about diesels. Also, the "Search Forums" section of this site is invaluable for discovering darn near anything and everything you might have a question about. Best of luck!

ahh, the days of innocence.

I recommend first, removing the muffler and leaving the resonator, removing the Silencer Ring (SR), getting BHAF air filter ($50-60), and checking the lift pump pressure-at speed.

No big performance there, but the truck will sound much more TRUCKIE.

Then do the gauges.

Then decide if you want to do it twice.

Twice is the route taken by those who leave the stock clutch in and try not to overpower it. When they do overpower it and haveta add a big bad clutch--they then wind up with bigger injectors, which leads to another turbo, etc.

Enjoy.

its an auto with trafic where i live my leg would fall off with a stick althow i do miss shifting some times. Iv been thinking of exhaust should i go 4" or 5" and what type-brand is good. Also should i get stacks since the day i bought it iv been thinking about them.

4" will carry over 500HP. Split into stacks--no telling, but then you need 5" stacks.

Auto--oh poopie. Can usually get away with a box OR injectors, but not both--until you get a badass aftermarket auto--'bout 4000-5000.

I recommend DD3 or similar injectors with boost fooler. Smooth power, not as hard on driveline as boxes with timing.

Mark Craig has some nice exhaust products--especially if you want SS. He's in Nashville and a member here.

Stacks are the way to go. If your thinking about them now, do them instead of buying a full system, and then changing later. I have never run a Banks product, so I will refrain from comment, but I will say I VERY satisfied with Diesel Dynamics.

I did that road and well your dollar can go much further with other products. Granted Banks does make it an easy diy install and quality kit but You really can find more power for less$$

Thanks guys i kinda had a feeling about Banks after i started looking around. I am really leaning twords the stacks My wife doesnt like them but hey she wont wana drive the truck any more so its win win lol. O yeah where can i find stacks?

A nice clean complete kit is available from TDR Member Rob Thomas. PM him or call him for more details. His number is in his sig. I dont know of anybody else that sells complete stack kits.

You've come to the right place

Rob Thomas has nice stuff, but he's as high as Banks. ;) :p :D (just funnin' ya Rob)

The difference is that I won't hesitate to buy or recommend Rob's stuff. And while Banks stuff has always been overpriced--I lost all respect for Mr. Banks and his outfit with the last ad he put in TDR. He slams every other company out there--calling them "hacks" or such. What a scum thing to do. Don't mean to re-direct the thread, but I had to say something about him.

I have parts from: Wildcat Diesel, City Diesel, PDR, TST, Big Exhaust, Edge, Diesel Dynamics, Rob Thomas, Geno's Garage, Blue Chip Diesel, Enterprise Engine Performance, South Bend Clutch, SunCoast Converters, and more on my two trucks (can't give up ALL my secrets);).

With a little guidance, anybody can make the same power with less $ than a Banks setup. Especially if they will buy some used stuff. With relative safety too.

ON stacks, many of us get used stuff out of the big truck salvage yards. Others plunk down the dough. I haven't done mine yet.

Mark Craig doesn't do stacks.

i have rob thomas stacks and they look and sound awsome. thanks to rob thomas for making these so we dont have look around and buy a piece here and there to put stacks on our trucks.

The best way that I can answer that question is by telling you this: I've had friends of mine tell me that they've turned around while walking down the street to wave at a big rig 'cause they thought that it was me comin' down the road :D

Stacks are pretty freakin' loud... regardless of your setup. Lose the silencer ring and run a BHAF, and you'll have no problem hearin' your turbo sing.

The only downside is that you lose all stealth capability... and it can become slightly annoying on long trips.

Just my . 01 (can't afford any more),

Dave

Doug,

You need to find some local TDR-type folks up your way. Ride and try some of these things before you buy. There are two local chapters listed for your state.

All the companys WadePatton recomended are very good plus a few more oh yeah he's right about banks to. You can spend your money much more wisely.

Definitely go with the stacks. It ain't loud enough if it ain't settin' off car alarms. :D :D :D

I have stacks and granted I like them... . I'd glady go back to a single pipe for absolute unlitmate LOUDNESS!

Stacks are cool, and sound great, but a straightpipe is louder! :p

A straight under-the-truck 5" is pretty freaking RUDE--but it's blowing the noise out AT things and people.

Un-muffed stacks put out HUGE noise too, but it is directed at migrating birds and stars--not as harsh to me. Also depends on the plumbing, tips, total height, etc.
