fueling boxes vs milage

Mallory asked if the fueling boxes hurt fuel milage. I installed a Power Puck on my 02 Dodge 3500 cab and chassis, HO engine, 6 speed, 4x4, 4. 10 gears, and I get about 1mpg more fuel milage as without it on it. The extra 50 or 60 hp really comes in nice when I have a gooseneck with a big dozer on top of it gross wt. about 37000. The truck is geared perfectly for what I need it for. The last two times I checked the fuel mileage, I got 16. 0 and 17. 4 mpg respectively, thats empty running around with maybe a small amount of pulling involved. I routinely check fuel milage at every fill up. Also, I might mention that a good fuel treatment will not only help mileage and power, but extend the life of the VP44 poump. The added lubricity of the fuel treatment certainly will help your pump. I am also a Diesel technician by the way. I have been well pleased with the Puck, all except the price of it. I think you would enjoy one very much. Good luck ! Jerry

jwhite,

We actually don't consider the Power Puck, EZ and Van Aaken as 'fueling' boxes... we consider them 'timing' boxes, which is where most of their gain comes from. A side benefit from timing usually results in better mileage.

The 'fueling' boxes are ones like: TST Powermax, BlueChip, Edge and Edge Comp. These boxes simply force more fuel into the cylinder to make their power.

FYI, I went on a little road trip this last weekend, my speed was just under 80 mph, and I played with a BMW328 on the way ( he did not have a chance). my milage was just over 19 MPG with DD3's, a Puck and 35" tires.

well, that's because a 328 is a little pisser of a BMW. It's a little straight six economy motor. Try a power broker: 735 (I6), 740 (V8), or 860(V12) and wait till she's off the phone:p

Driving my truck back from TX I kept thinking how much it felt like my old 735. SCHWEET POWER. But even then I still know that the 735 would dust it after 100, if not sooner.

But then I'm like you, I'll play with anybody that'll play. Oo.

Little confused here. If "Larger injectors give the affect of increasing timing" Don't larger injectors give more fuel? and according to another post

Timing Boxes--Power Puck, EZ, VA

Fueling Boxes--TST Powermax, Bluechip, Edge Comp

Wouldn't you want Injectors and a fueling box?

If injectors give more fuel then Injectors and Timing Box. Like DD3 and Power Puck

Either way, you need to get the TIMING ADVANCED.

Thats the ticket for free power for the same mpg's & lower egt's

If you use a box, make sure it has the timing advance feature (EZ, comp, VA , whatever).

Larger injectors give the affect of increasing timing, but its not enough to lower egt's much.

Its pretty hard to go wrong w/ DD2's, an edge EZ (or preferrably VA for better low rpm pull w/ slightly more smoke), BHAF air cleaner, remove the muffler, and keep the resonator. You'd be in sweet city! Would be one of the best running trucks around.
