Looking to purchase boost, exhaust temp, and fuel pressure gauges and wanted some input. I have narrowed the decision down to the Autometer Z-Series and Isspro EV (looks best with factory gauges in my 2001), and I plan to mount the gauges in an A-pillar mount.

My questions are:

1. Who makes the best A-pillar mount, looks as well as functionability?

2. Who sells an A-pillar mount that matches factory color of my interior (Agate)?

3. Is it better to go with a mechanical or electrical fuel gauge, and where is the best place to grab the pressure from?

4. Is the fuel pressure isolation kit Piers sells a good one... place where kit makes connection, etc?

If I've failed to consider anything else prior to purchase, please pass on any/all recommendations. Thanks.

Hey Dwayne,

I just went through the whole gauge ordeal about four months ago and I changed my mind about a thousand times but I think that I got it right the first time. After a lot of looking around I decided to go with the Di-Pricol black on black guages. IMO they match the factory ones just about perfect and they are very easy to read in the dark although the colors arent quite the same (same colors but different configuration). Just to see for myself I ordered a 60psi boost gauge from Geno's (great service by the way) and I liked what I saw so I decided to get the rest of them but there was a lot of backorder/recall problems (not Geno's fault) so after a while I couldn't wait any more so I started to search around and I ended up geting the rest of them as well as the pillar from Dave at http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com. He had the parts on the shelf and took very good care of me. He was very informative and had lots of tips and he also stocks all the reducers and hoses there so you don't have to hunt for them somewhere else. The Di-Pricol FP guage had been frowned upon in the past due to a batch of defective isolators but I got one of the new ones and I've had no problems. The gauge is very smooth and responsive and is not jumpy. The pillars that they use are ProPods and it fit perfect, I was a little skeptical at first but I just took my time and it came out fine. As far as the color goes, I have the same interior as you and it matched perfect-a little texture difference of the plastic of the pod itself but you can't notice unless you really study it. The way that they get the color is they spray paint it with the factoy paint and he did that for me at no charge. I'm not trying to disuade you from the Z's or the Ipro's, this is just my input. Also, I'm not affiliated with either one of these companies but like I said I've been pleased with both of them. Sorry if I rambled but if you need any more info or pics of mine let me know.

Adam,

Thanks for the input. I didn't look at the Di-procol gauges, will have to check out the website you recommended.

Like yourself, I only want to do this once and want to ensure I'm not sorry about my decision later.

You mentioned isolater for fuel pressure gauge--is your fuel pressure gauge mechanical?

Did you have any problems fitting everything behind your A-pillar mount? Did the new mount fit right over the old one, or did you have to remove it before installing new one? If possible, a picture of your install would be great.

I have a little time to do more research. Just want to have them installed before I travel back to Alaska in July.

Appreciate the help, Adam.

Gentlemen,

Want to thank everyone for their input. So many choices, just have to love America. I'll check the websites provided and go from there.

illflem - the link you provided was interesting/helpful.

One question concerning fuel pressure gauge connection; where is best place to tap into fuel system, pre/post filter, or injection pump inlet?

Again, thanks.

Since the injection pump is your main concern I'd say it would be the best place to monitor. Post filter would be close to the same reading but prefilter might get you in trouble if the filter plugs.
