I have a used 05, got it about 10 days ago. Yesterday I noticed that there was an engine speed dependant sqeaking/squealing coming from the engine bay. I popped the hood and it seems to be coming from either the tensioner pully or the dead pulley right above it. It definitely sounds more like a bearing than actual belt squeal. I have also found evidence that this truck has shredded at least one belt in the past (found a couple pieces of shredded belt lurking under the exhaust manifold heat shield).

I did some searching here and haven't seen anything too recent about it, other than there have been a lot of failed belts. Does anyone know if there has been a TSB about this? Has anyone else had a specific problem with the bearing in one of the pulleys?

The first 03's had a problem with cracked alt brackets but I think that was fixed long before 05. You may want to remove the belt and turn the idler pulleys by hand checking for any roughness.

There apparently is a fix for this now - there is a TSB that involves installing an override pulley. Most of us that have had shredded belts (mine went at 5400 miles) have had no additional problems after a new one was installed.

Why? We have no idea... ...
