Have noticed lately that my truck is putting out more smoke. Puts out a little cloud when you take off and more when you hit the throttle hard. Lower quarter panel is getting sooty as well. Any ideas why it would start this? Truck still runs fine but mileage has decreased a little.

Hypman,

I have been dealing with a similar situation with my 03. Have you noticed any hesitation from take off? Mine has started hesitating from stop lights. I found that adding some Diesel Kleen helps but the smoke and hesitating return. I think that it is a injector issue. I have had my truck in to 2 dealerships and they cannot find anything wrong. It's been driving me crazy for the last year... LOL. #@$%!

Hi Rob,

No more hesitation than usual. Just more smoke. When I put the HTB2 turbo on the smoke was almost nonexistant, but has returned. I'm still running stock injectors with 113K and am thinking it may be time to upgrade to some Mach Series injectors. Was thinking about some 90 HP injectors. Used to get 18mpg in town and 22mpg on the road. It's down to 14. 5-15 in town now.

My question to you is, How long have you had the mods you are currently running? If for less than a year, I would say its the hotter wheather.

Hot air = less air! Less air = More smoke!

Not sure why, but my truck's been smoking a little more too. I know that it will smoke with her new Low Stall TC. The transmission was done in mid-May. She seems to smoke more now, than she did just a month or two ago. I am noticing more soot from other Diesels also from VW TDIs to 18-Wheelers  Moose

More Smoke

I've had the mods on my truck with the exception of the HTB2 and exhaust manifold for almost 4 yrs. Can my injectors cause the issue? I may unplug the Edge EZ and make sure it is still working. I'm scratchin my head at this point.

It is the warmer weather most likely, my truck is smoking more as well. If you upgrade your injectors you WILL see more smoke than you are seeing now. Wait till it cools off, you should see less smoke then.

My truck does this too. Sometimes when I hit the throttle hard, it makes big clouds. I have soot all over the 1/4 panel. Is something wrong?

I'm going with the hot summer air theory. That's why everyone wants "cold air induction". Colder air is denser, e. g. more oxygen, better combustion, more HP, fresher smelling exhaust (not sure about the last one). I turn my Smarty way down in the summer time to compensate for the extra smoke.

Check your injector pump, as this might be the cause. The first signs of injector pump failure are smoke from exhaust and lower than normal fuel mileage.

check air filter. i had that issue with my 12ver when i bought it. k&n packed with dirt. clean filter and as clean as a 12ver can be :D

Don't think it's my VP. I replaced it about 15K ago and relocated the lift pump with the Vulcan kit at the same time. Cleaned the air filter not too long ago but will give it a check. Gonna change the oil again in a week or so I'll clean it again then. Any more ideas??
