My '05 4wd 2500 has been a transmission nightmare from almost the very beginning. By 20K miles it seemed weak and didn't want to back up into my driveway without a lot of pedal. Since it was under warranty I took it to the dealer, who drove it and said no problem every time I took it in until l showed my 4.7 truck would do what my 5.9 diesel wouldn't. Never have trusted the truck since but I love it so I keep it and hope for the best but yesterday it failed again at about 20K miles.
Driving yesterday through town to an annual event just south of town and it was fine until I started to get a burning smell and slow/weak shifts and felt as if the brake was on. Pulled over and checked the transmission fluid, had enough and it was red with no burned smell so I headed home as I was 100 miles away. Headed north on 441 and kept it rolling instead of stopping at lights and the smell went away and the shifts became better, by the time I was headed out of town it if was shifting like normal all the way home. I am at a loss what is going on with the truck. Any ideas what the problem is/was?
Now it sits in the driveway and being out in the boonies from a small town there is no real transmission shops in the area so the dealer is about it and I doubt they would build a really strong transmission. Mike
