latly ive been having a problem w/ the truck running in the mornings. it acts like air in the fuel lines but the problem is too inconsistant from morning to morning and sevarity to sevarity. the problem comes after i start the truck and get down the road aways it will have a lack of power little to no smoke no matter how hard i try and it will either idle really really low like around 2 to 300 rpms or it wont idle at all. this all sounds like air in the lines but the thing that is making me think otherwise is that some mornings it happens some it doesnt some mornings its real bad some its hardly noticeable. and to top it off it only does it in the early mornings. when i say early i mean like 5am if i where to leave to go somewhere at say 7am i have yet to have a problem hence the title for this thread it only happens in the morning when its cooler out average right now has been about 60 in the mornings. so any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated thanks in advanced

My 95 did that for a few weeks then started leaking fuel at night.

I found the return line at the back of the head cracked. I slid the hose farther on it and reclamped it. Cured. The crack let air in, until it was big enough to let fuel out.

one thing i was thinking is this is temp sensitive cause it only hapens when its about 60 and when the truck is cold any ideas?

well im am planning on doing the fuel lines i do need to find those marine grade ones tho which i cant seem to do. any help there would be nice. and im not saying that ya'll are wrong im just trying to work this out i am a mechanic by tade and so i try to find the problem before i fix it which is why im here i cant seem to find an obvious problem. well thanks for the help ya'll i guess fuel lines is next thing i need to do. now if one of ya'll could just direct me to the guy who has em that would be great. thanks again for all the help

Mahnick (sp) Contack Lary B. @ www.fostertruck.com. He has the fuel lines you are looking for. (I didnt get the e-mail right for Foster truckparts .com becaues it didnt turn up in blue). Some one else will chime in and give you the correct e-mail address. If you dont get it check your latest TDR magizine and he will have an add in there.

It's probalby air getting in or fuel problem, at 60 degrees engine should run OK. Grid heaters are turned on at 59 degrees (intake manifold). You can check to see if they are working by watching voltemeter it will drop to 8 volts, of course the wait to start light should be on.

well in the mornings i wait for the wts light to go out and its never very long lol so i know its not really powering the grids and it runs fine as far as combustion it fires right up an idles smooth i would say theres no smoke but i cant tell when its dark. it only starts to run bad when i get down the road a ways and come to a stop or let it come down to an idle.

i also have an update today i replaced a fuel line on the back of the motor i think its the one that goes to the pump. it was cracked pretty bad just after it comes off the hard line. i replaced it and went to fire it up well it cranked for a while but finally started. it ran real bad though had to be kept above 2k for a while or it would die then as i let it run i could get the rpms down till finaly it would idle ok. well as i let it idle i looked it over again to see if i could find something but couldn't. i did however touch each exhaust port and found that #6 was cooler then the others significantly cooler more so since #6 is supposed to run hoter then the others. i shocked the tank w/ powerservice had something less then a half bottle of the 96oz ps and i put it all in figured maybe an injector might clogged well i started it ran it real hard on a test drive. got back and put the infared on it 3 and 4 were hottest w/ 5 then 2 and 6 and 1 being the coolest. oh i also forgot to mention before i shocked the tank i cracked all the lines individualy to see why the one was cold well i could hear a difference in the way it ran in all but 6 and it had a rough spot like a miss while idleing not a consistent miss more a random one but it was there. anyways i shocked the tank and ran it real hard and it seems to be fine for now though i still want to pull the injector. tired to today but couldn't get it i will go get the proper tool from cummins west on monday. well sory ya'll for the long lol any help w/ any one of these rough issues will be greatly appreciated

I finally got the fuel line kit from Larry B's and had a local mechanic do the deed. Took him 2 hours he is reasonable on labor and does good work. The kit and all under $100. Works great now. Has been off and on for months. I only use the truck for pulling the horse trailer now. And have been putting up with it. 95 -2500 ext/ cab. 170k miles. Larry.

well like i put a new fuel line on this weekend and this morning it did the same thing its been doing so its not that whats next?
