I see my 2005 has plastic tanks on the intercooler and was warned they have had problems with them. Has anyone run any big boost numbers or heard of any problems?I have a set of twins coming and I am a little nervous.

up to 04. 5 the intercooler is still metal. the 05's have plastic and I have heard the same thing about them coming apart. Its too bad they are starting to use less than optimal parts.

I see 60lbs about once a day; current setup maxes out around 64lbs. It'd make more if I kept the little turbo's wastegate shut longer. Lead foot. I drive like a granny until the engine warms up though. Before I put the twins on I fire-ringed and upgraded the studs; which was probably over-kill but I don't worry about getting on it when I feel like it (after temp is up).

I noticed some people are posting about there 03-04. 5 's, with the new 05 having the plastic intercooler, its like apples and oranges

I have no knowledge about the twins and and 2005 model... has it even been done yet?

But I wonder if the 03-04. 5 intercooler would fit??

I was down at the dealer this morning and this plastic one is now the new part # for all of the years ,so if you get in a accident or something the new one you get will be plastic. At least untill they realize they are no good. You can't even order a 03 or 04 steel intercooler with out getting the change up part# which is this new style. So now what?Unless they will let me swap the one off my 03 that is now sitting in their used car lot. I don,t really have a spare grand for a aftermarket one but I might have to buck up. I have not had much luck finding one yet. Haisley is working on something for 05 but nothing yet and Banks might release one early next year.

Woah... that isn't good at all. DC is playing hardball on trying to stop the bombing now.

I just popped my plastic one 35 minutes ago, would have never guessed. Luckily, while talking to ATS last week the tech told me about a customer who had done the same. (otherwise it might have been a pain trying to figure it out). The truck was on level 4 with a Banks 6 gunner.

did it just fizzle and die or did it go off with a big boom?

I know of a few companys coming on line to build upgaded intercoolers but nothing quite yet . City Diesel can get and sell the oem steel ones as well they say they are making aluminum ones in the future. Diesel Trans Tech is setting up to convert the stock plastic one back to a steel tank but I believe that is still a little ways away. Piers said to keep checking in as they were trying to get something happening as well. Mine is still holding out so far. I got to go and find some wood to knock on .

PLASTIC! Doh! So now when I am ready to buy my new truck I am going to have to purchase a turbo AND an intercooler just to get it back to "standard"!!!! D/C sure is starting to do stuff "on the cheap"!

Yes, it made a pop sound. The end tank seperated from the core, and a piece of the rubber seal blew out of the opening. I am not real happy about it as this is my first Dodge.

I'm curios are you going to try to warranty this repair or just go with a steel aftermarket one now?

Reading these post sure make me glad I have an 03 I had some TSB early design issues but a plastic intercooler what were they thinking. If people ask me about buying one of these I will recommend an 03 or 04. I guess there are good years and troubling years.

Well this is great! So basically DC has cheapened up the intercooler to JUST barely handle the stock turbo pressures?!? You think Slicks just has a lemon or that this is going to be the "new" way that things are going to go?

Hey guys, lets take it easy on Dodge here. You know they probably saved $4. 20 per truck going this route and will without a shadow of a doubt pass this savings on to us. :-laf

That's a good question. I talked to a guy that has seen 48 psi with his and no problems. Leave it to me to get a "good" one. The worse thing was I never paid that much attention to the intercooler. I thought it was just painted black... ... Major "DOH" on my part. I think I am going to repair this myself and buy a good one in a few weeks.
