I have seen spikes up to 48-50 psi before the wastegate opens. This is with the TST on level 4-4. :--) With the TST off on 0-0 it boost fools and I have seen 38 psi that way. After reading some of these posts, I consider myself very lucky.

You've got an '03 though. I think that the plastic didn't start until this model year- '05...

I was Gillett diesel when they were testing a 2005 on the dyno and it popped at 40 psi. It blows the rubber gasket out of the ends of the tank. After it blew the truck would only make 20 psi after.

I can do some checking

If my hunch is right, I know who is making the intercoolers for Dodge. I'll make a phone call tomorrow and verify and then get some pressure specs on it. I believe my 04. 5 built in May has plastic tanks also. One question though, why is everyone stating that steel tanks are the way to go? I think the intercooler core is aluminum which would make aluminum tanks readily brazeable for repairs or upgrades.



Oh, and on the savings thing for DC, they probably save $30 or more on a pair of glass filled nylon tanks compared to deep drawn and brazed fitting tanks. It may not seem like much on a $40K truck but it's a cost avoidance of $3M annually per 100,000 units.

I don't think anyone is concerned about the plastic in a STOCK configuration. I think we are all concerned that it's not going to hold up to any BOMB-ing... even mildly. :{

I have seen the same thing as lmills, 48 pounds and so far no problems,I got my 2005 boost elbow in yesterday so I better install it. I kinda like the high boost ,seems to run a little cooler then my 03 but I want to wait for a aluminum intercooler so I better back it off.
