I am scheduled to get the G30 recall done tomorrow. Is it safe to assume that they will do latest and most up to date reflash that is needed in the process and not just whats needed for this recall or is it all one in the same? My truck was built in late April, delivered on 5/5 and has not been in for service yet. What would the number(s) be on the latest reflash? Other than an ETC light several months ago I have been free of any malfunctions that I know of. I have read of several trucks on here that had more warning lights after they went in for service than they had before they went in... hopefully I wont be another one of those. When I asked about parts they said they would have the needed part(s) but that they were only being allowed to order 5 per week.

Wish me luck :)

All dealers are being limited to 5 modules per week. The latest software available should be what they will install.

Maybe I have been lucky. I took delivery of my 08 on Oct 14. Went in that week to get rear inner liners and mud flaps installed and that night was called by dealer that a reflash was needed. Took in the next day and got the reflash. A few days later I got the recall for G30 and went in Monday and had it done. To date no issues. The luck part is my dealer is Carson City dodge and they seem to know what they are doing.

California, and a few other states, won't let a vehicle be registered if an emissions recall isn't done. Big brother is alive and well.

Most current flash for 07 trucks is AV that superceded the AU flash about a week ago. You can no longer download the AU flash.

From the paperwork I got I can't tell if I got an 'AV', 'AU' reflash or either of those. It says:

Labor... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

Recall G30 - Replace 02 Sensor Module and Reprogram ECM

RRT

Replace O2 Module and Reprogram PCM

08-G3-01-83 . 8

Parts... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

1 CBF1G300 Module Oxygen

What is the difference between the ECM and PCM on these trucks if it can easily be explained here? I assume the ECM is a 'electronic control module' and the PCM is the 'powertrain control module'.

I'm a bit concerned about this dealerships overall knowledge of these trucks in that I was concerned that any reflash(s) might erase the Hi Idle feature that I had Dishman Dodge program in. When they got done with the truck they didn't know how to check the High Idle (I had to go into the shop and test it) meaning they have had little or no request for this feature. Are the '08's still not coming with this feature activated? With the concern of idling these engines too much you would think it would automatically be turned on.

I have had the G30 recall done so how do you convince dealer that you need the latest and greatest flash (AV or whatever)?

Av

I recently had the G30 recall performed plus the entire DPF replaced and I was just informed there is another reflash "AV" to be performed. From what we have been reading here on TDR and also from the initial reading by the Tech the AV reflash deals mostly with the PCM and the shift points however there are also likely a few updates for the ECM included. Since the G30 recall my truck has been performing more like it did when I first took delivery in June with the exception of the milage which is down. Other wise I am very pleased with the overall performance now and even in the winter driving it is a pleasure to drive.

They replaced your entire DPF for what reason?

Since I just had the G30 recall done yesterday hopefully they did the 'AV' reflash at the same time. I told the service writer that the hour drive each way is kind of a hassle and with the price of diesel it's getting expensive. I haven't driven mine enough yet to know if what they did has changed anything or not.

Having mine done on Monday since they had to order the DPF. Engine light seems to like to stay on but maybe this time it will be fixed for good. 60K on my beast and still runs great, just wish I was paying $2 a gallon instead of $3++

There is no difference, Cummins calls the engine computer a ECM, Chrysler calls it a PCM. Looks like the service literature was not proof-read:eek:

Actualy in 05 it went back to one controller so it is considered a power train controller since it also controls the transmmision.
