One thing that I was never pleased with are those lil stick on deer repellers. You know those whistle thingies? Well, I put a set on my ol' 90 one ton and they worked more like a magnet for those critters! I had all sorts of lil beady eyes hoppin' towards the RAMs! I then took them off after a few long trips. However, I gave them another try on the two 92 RAMS... . Again, I was feeling like a lone doe in rutting season. Antelope, mule deer, Elk, you name it... they all came to see me. Since I have not had those on any of my rigs, there has been no crushed grills or as many anxious moments.

Glad I [censored] the things.

The most useless factory option I have on the truck is the 8way power seat. I never touch the buttons, and have them all at max down. I'm 5' 11" and weigh 195. The standard position of the seat at max down is fine. The blow up pad in the lower seat back gets no use either. I sure wish the passenger seat had the power option. I'm forever getting out of the truck to help my wife or grandson adjust that.

As for things I put on the truck. The most useless has been the Hella 550 lights. Here in Florida we get a lot of fog during winter months. But with the 4X4 and the 255/85 tires the lights are too high to help. Those with factory Fog lights are worse off because their lights are just below bumper, way too high. Mine are even with the front receiver. Now I'll keep the Hellas because when 4wheeling they really light up the area. But they are too powerful for the highway.

My worst addon was DeeZee Nerf bars. They are black and are rusting already (3-yrs. old). I had to drill the frame to install them and in order to avoid drilling near the flange, the bars ended up too high and it is still difficult for my wife to get in (5'-0" in her shoes). When I replace, they will be aluminum or stainless and require no drilling in the frame. Otherwise I'm a happy rammer.

A major disappointment for me was a Weatherguard 100 gallon fuel tank. It rusted inside constantly, forcing me to buy extra filtration. The filters plugged every time I used it. The tank developed a stress crack also. Weatherguard/Knaack refused to honor their warranty. Their excuse was that I had used the tank as an auxiliary tank instead of a transfer tank. The filtration system that I had added necessitated using a permanent inlet into the fuel inlet pipe of the main tank instead of the hose I had used at first. I was more disappointed with their poor customer service than with a bad product that cost me almost as much in filter systems as the darn tank.

I am now using a smaller steel tank that is at least 60 years old. No rust, ever. Must be made of "real" metal, not recycled junk.

Yo, scott1, didn't you realize those were elephant repellers? I've had them on my truck for years and I'll swear to the fact that they work. I've NEVER encountered an elephant outside the zoo. 100% satisfaction.

I haven't been to happy with my Autometer Gauges. The neddle inside the egt sticks. I sent it to them and they replaced it. Now the new one sticks too, just not as bad as the first one. I'm contemplating replacing them but they were to expensive to just throw away

One of mine is the Tornado Air management system. Popped the device in the intake manifold, where the rubber conector is. No improvement in mileage or torque. It may work in some vehicles, but not in our Cummins. $65 bannanas for the thing. Should have sent it back #ad

Two things bother me on the new truck
1) The overhead console is just about worthless. I don't have a garage so I don't need a holder for the controller. And I challenge any DC engineer to find a pair of sunglasses that fits in the sungalasses holder.
2) The boot around the transfer case shift lever is the cheapest, stickiest crap rubber I have ever seen. It feels like a cheap haloween mask.

And as long as I'm whining here, it would be nice if they had put an off position on the fan control. I am forever screwing around with all three of the knobs to find the right mix. I might add that the "inferior" pre-98 trucks HAD said fan off position, a nice imitation leather t-case shift lever boot, and a sunglasses holder that actually held a pair of f@##ing sunglasses!

BTW, exactly what the hell are you supposed to do with that little cubby in the dash?!

I put my espresso card in that small cubby hole. Buy 10 get 1 free.

The worst factory option I got was the "under seat storage" for the rear seat. The compartmentalized nature of it makes it virtually impossible to store anything! I tried to put a set of jumper cables (yes, for giving ph**d drivers a hand) under their only to find out that the nice plastic case wouldn't fit because of the carefully thought out dividers. Who was it that had a sawzall?

As far as that tiny little cubby hole in the dash... Try putting your cell-phone in it. I have one of them too-da*n-small Nokia phones that fit in there like a charm.

Articat, I use the sunglass holder for a chew can holder. Works perfect for that!

My most useless thing is my headlight blackouts. They cut down the light but sure do look good on a black ram. That's why I have KC lights for those dark country roads. I can see a opossum or armadillo a mile away and get my sights set in to hit him with the duals.

The most usless thing that I have put on my truck is a 16 cm housing. At a cost of $175
I got 3 more pounds of boost and no noticable performance increase. That adds up to about $58. 00 a pound.

The little cubby on the dash holds an altimiter from Camper World (about $20) just like it was made for it. It just crams in perfectly! My wife loves this thing and it looks cool!

gee roaddog , i could have saved a ton of money and swapped seats with you , i traded my 98 because i wanted a power seat , i can now adjust it to a comfortable position , and if you want power on the passenger side you could trade your 99 for an 01 , that will give you a power passenger side , better yet i bet it wouldn't take much to put the power seat on the passenger side and convert your side to a manual seat ...

i know what you guys mean about the useless console holders , my sunglasses barely fit and i don't park in the garage so it is kind of useless and that little cubby in the dash is eaten up by my seat heater , that a good place to stow sunglasses ...

The Preluber by far, alot of money no company backing, two modules in one year, and last but not least, mine shorted out and caught my truck on fire, now im almost completly gray. I won't be replacing it with another one. Thanks for letting me vent,my wife gets tired of hearing it.

How about the best option we bought for our trucks. I'll bet we would all agree on the same thing! Can you guess what it is? Here is a hint... (SHAKE RATTLE & STINK)

The worst accessory I bought for my truck is the GTS bug shield. It is a worthless thing that rocks, mud, and slush build up behind (between it and the paint). The little rubber protective tits that you are supposed to stick on have slowly moved to positions that render them useless. Oh yeah, It makes my mirrors vibrate. Anybody want the thing? I'll GIVE it to you, just come take it off of my truck.

I use the overhead space where the computer readout is supposed to go for sunglasses. They fit perfect. But if you really mash the throttle (while bombed) sometimes the sunglasses fly out and end up in the back seat!

I converted the cubby hole where the cup holders are on the auto transmission to a hidden CD changer. I bought the automatic cup holder from the dealer and just used the door from it to hide the CD changer. Just open the little door and there it is. Nice and hidden. By the way, if you are in 5th gear, you can't open the door very far, but just enough to get to those tunes.
