All 3 have relatively new engines. I'm seeing some major issues on the new 6. 0 P. S. D. ,a few on the D-max,yet I've seen nothing really on the common rail Cummins. What's up guys, everything A. O. K in Cummins-land ;) . I'm going to get a new one some day and I'm pretty sure it will be another C. T. D. ... Doug

So far I've only heard of one actual eng problem, a relief valve in the fuel system if I remember correctly. No problems with lift pumps or anything else. Unfortunately for ford, they've got a long ways to go before they catch up with the reliability of the old 7. 3. As for the longevity of any engine compared to the Cummins, well, you probably know how we all feel about that rite? :D

the 7. 3 ferd is reliable, just never start it, and it will always be there. It may not run but it would be there!

On the bright side no self respecting thief would steal a POS ferd.

Being a diehard Cummins man I hate to admit it but the 7. 3 Powerjoke stands up to a lot of abuse and keeps on running. We have a fleet of about 40 ambulances all running Powerjokes and we have very few problems with the engines. And those guys and gals beat the crap out of those engines. No such thing as letting them idle after a hard run to cool the turbo. No sir. Just shut the sucker down.

We just ordered an 03 Dodge 2500 SO auto for a first response truck so we will see how the Cummins handles that sort of abuse. It was my idea so it better be a winner cause my butt is on the line and so is my pride. :D :D :D

Keep us posted. Some of us would like to know this stuff EVEN IF a CTD breaks down. But we all like to hear the good news more! These are machines, a creation of man. Man is not perfect, and machines do break down.

I hate to admit it, but Casey's right about that. I have several friends that have the 7. 3 PSD's and they have all been very happy with them. That being said, my first diesel was a Ford and the next three have been CTD's:D :D . My next one will be another Cummins, I just love 'em.

Only 5k on mine with not even a hint of a problem. Out of balance drive shaft replaced, cured vibration, no problem. I'm starting to like this truck!:D

Got a neighbor pulling horses all over the country. Tuesday his had 27,000 and change. Fixing to leave this weekend on a 4,000 mile trip with a drafter and two normal size horses. Said his 03 h. o. 6 speed out pulls Dura Pads on hills and above 70 out strokes the Power jokers. Said NO Problems as of yet. Its got a busted windshield. . Its a 4 door short box 4x4

Casey, is the truck you ordered at work a SO/47re or a SO/48RE. I agree with dnitzel, keep us posted on how it fairs in fast paced world of lights and sirens.

We have two rescues at my station and both are powerstrokes ones a '98 and the other is a '01 and both have held up well. The '98 has the "cackle'' which is annoying and it needed a water pump but other than that it's been a good engine during it's 80,000 mile abusive life. 01' has had no engine trouble at all in 25,000 miles.

Pulling a 15K 5th wheel and my brother inlaw pulling a 4,500# trailer(03 Dodge quad dually vs. 03 quad dually Duramax) I got 9. 75 mpg he got 16-16. 5 mpg. That was the average on a 1600 mile trip from B. C. to Arizona. We fueled up together. I would still rather have the Dodge but have to give the Chev credit. Holy crap that thing gets good milage. He had Allison and 3. 73's I have 6spd and 4. 10's . I had much more weight and a higher trailer than him, but my Dodge hardly gets his kind of milage empty.

My 2001 HO shortbed 4x2 turned 17. 5-18mpg running 70 pulling a flatbed with '55 Chevy. Weighed in at 6000lbs total. It was relatively flat highway though and not much wind.

I have 2 trucks with over 200,000 miles on. Both have had injector problems, one at 190,000 the other at 260,000. one truck has had a new CP3 pump and 2 injectors replaced in 220,000 miles it has been in service 16 months. The other truck had all 6 injectors leaking and replaced at 260,000. This truck now has no compression on #4 cylinder and are in the process of tearing it down. It now has 279,000 miles on it in 18 months. I suspect the pressure boxes to trick the ECM are shorting the fuel pressure components due to keeping rail pressures at the upper limit longer. I one other truck I am servicing it is stock and no problems at 80,000 in 18 months

I am going to turn over 40,000 in the next few days and the only real problem I have had was new high pressure pump under warranty. Otherwise I am very happy with my truck considering the abuse it gets with heavy loads.
