Competition Best pulling upgrades

Competition Water meth safety?

That's truely impressive. That cummins could be at the top of the power game. I don't really see a truck there. . Looks more like a very custom pulling machine with a dodge body and cummins engine. Kind of like a rail in the drag racing scene. The sound is awesome. .

I was over at Chris Watson's house a lil while back for a grill out and his truck is around the same ball park. Would be nice to see a mod truck get on a dyno but I am afraid most of us would be a little disappointed. I think Dan Schied said their truck is only about 1200 hp, much less then the 1500-2000hp most of the internet warriors were speculating.

Yeah thats true, HP doesnt win pulls. It doesnt hurt, but there are alot of other factors.

You need to get the street chassis dyno mentality out of your head. There is a reason these guys use an engine dyno. I could list them but they're too easy to think of.

When your at this level just saying how much hp your making on an engine dyno is a clue too valuable to give away (its like showing your hand at a Poker game). No ones going to come out and say how much they are making totally...

I think this is the true reason they do not dyno them because the # would not be as high as everyone claims. In all motorsports the guy with the most hp and a bad setup does not win. These trucks are alot about set-up and driver skill and track reading. I think these trucks are making hp but not 1200 or 1400 hp.

TJ,

You ever see a truck like this pull in person? And how much hp do you think they are making? (and how much hp does your truck make?) (this is just for comparisons sake... (mines a lowly 500hp truck).

Keep in mind BBD was at 865hp (if I remember right). Maybe Scott will chime in and tell us what he thinks...

Kind of funny there is always some nay sayers whenever a thread like this is posted... . but when some 800hp dyno queen (not you BBD) with a 25% correction factor posts people line up to smooch smooch...

This truck is a work of art... . as many of the Mod trucks are these days. .

TJ, trust me, most of the mod class is over 1200 HP. How much over, is another argument.

However, It would be interesting to know, after Erik won the PPL pull Friday night, did any of the other Mods change gears or other set up for the DHRA pull Saturday?

Gear selection is key in that class, and Erik nailed it, both nights, by a large margin.

After years of carnage and top 5 finishes at that track, Erik earned the only Fri/Sat wins in the big class, ever.

It was well deserved.

Yes I have seen them pull. My truck did 673 with some water/meth and I don't think I am any where close to them but I don't think they have double my hp. I have also watched BBD dyno and he is in the 8's. I believe what I can see and or what is proven. I could be wrong but have any of these 1200hp trucks dynoed in a public place or where someone could verify the #'s

Sledpuller, are you talking flywheel of rear wheel hp.

I believe that a roller type dyno would be NO-GOOD on these trucks, as of many pullers' trucks, because it would be impossible to duplicate the load that the sled puts on these engines ;)

Example: I believe that a 450 rwhp DYNO street truck, when hooked up to the sled it is probably within reason to say that said truck is making 500-550. Just my opinion. :D

Oh and that IS one powerful, yet, like said before "A WORK OF ART" of a truck!! Nice job, and video. Thanks.

I think dyno competitions are worthless anyway. Unless your just curious on what yours is doing the final number isn't important. Unlike pickups trucks most semi truck dyno competitions results are not the highest number attained it's the highest number you can hold for 5 seconds. Sure there are alot of 500 hp trucks on here but what can you maintain? Someone might peak at 500 but quickly falls fast. You could probably get 100hp out of a 5hp Briggs for about a second before it explodes, does that make it a 100hp engine? Not in my book! :D

I'd better put on the fire suit for the flaming I'll get from the dyno queens. :-laf

Sled pulls are a dyno, in effect, measured in foot/pounds. So many thousands of pounds dragged so many feet. :D And probably the best way to measure real world power!

1400 is a good starting point. Kurt Haisleys truck makes about 2-300 HP more than Vans even with the single charger configuration. I think Van told me 1400 or so is the number for Vans.

After making probably 100 hard passes at 800+ hp (uncorrected ;) ) I'd say there HP figures are quite correct after knowing a thing or two.

Not at all... .

Sorry but a 4,000lbs roller does not put the same ammout of stress on the engine that sled pulling does. With these trucks it is NOT the best way to measure real world power.

Example... . My dyno guess numbers... . 2 years ago I should have gotten my butt handed to me sled pulling. I beat guys that were 50-75HP more than me, with more expierence. I also broke the FRONT driveshaft.

Here's a question just to illistrate the STRESS involved in a pull VS a dyno:

Has ANYONE in their Diesel truck broken a U-joint or driveshaft on a DYNO?
