What are we all paying for Diesel now?

Glow Plug Testing

Thats one of my favorite rigs pulling in the truck pulls. You gotta see Tom and Dana Lyndse's trucks. Built for Business & Red Hot Rollin. Both run with an 1150 Cummins. Tom's truck really does one heck of a wheel stand. They also flatened the compitition in the big rig series tractor pulling.

Gotta love the QSK-19 under the hood... . looks like a plumbers nightmare with all the chargers. :cool:

I wonder if the Metzgers have any problems with the cylinder heads moving around on that engine... ... that series of engines allegedly has issues with this.....

Metzger's shop is only 5 minutes from my Mom and Dad's. Dad works at Kenworth in parts and calls on them all the time (You should see thier fleet of W-900's! Very impressive). They have been having problems with the Belle all year, she just never ran 'right'. They finally tore her down a couple of months ago and found that several of the cam lobes had been seriously worn. I haven't heard any news in awhile as to whether they got her back together yet.

BTW, in the air cleaner department, they don't use one! They also have integrated some kind of computer to follow the fueling and boost numbers for each run. I hope to make it into their shop next time I'm home from school and shoot the breeze for awhile. Oo.

Anyone ever seen a cam out of a K-series?

They're huge. Just plain huge. 'nuff said.

I saw a cam along with the rest of the block, etc. at Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh - about a year or so ago.

Hey... is that thing really a "Q"sk-19 or is it a KTA-19? If they have the electronic QSK under the hood, that is really impressive.

Russell

I am not sure of the actual designation of the engine, but the electronics that I spoke of were added, as I understand it, to the mechanical injection in order to monitor, cut back(?!?!) fueling and boost levels depending on the circumstances. Needless to say, I have mucho questions when I get the opportunity to chew Mike Metzger's ear.

One of those questions will be if he wants to help sponsor my sledpulling addiction!:D Oo. :cool: :rolleyes: :{

Remember this pic?

The exhaust manifold is spilit 3 and 3, with a set of twins per bank, basically. No details on sizes, makes. I'll work on that. :cool:

What get me about this engine is how much HP per cubic inch it is making. I don't know if that's at the rear wheels or flywheel, but if you were to make a B-series produce 3 HP per cubic inch it would have to develop 1077 HP. No one's come very close to that yet!

What is even more impressive is the K-19 is a much larger engine than the B-series. The larger the engine the less HP per CID you can make because the laws of physics are against you. You cannot turn as high of RPM and thus generate less HP per CID. But the Metzker's K-19 in the video sounds like it's turning 4000+ RPM, which is completely godawful insane for a 1150 cube diesel engine
