I just joined this site, and im sure many of my questions have been asked before, but i wasn't having much luck in searching for answers. Anyway, I have an 01 2500 CTD QC SB with an auto. I bought a superchip when i first bought the truck about a year and a half ago. I am ready for more power, and am interested in putting an edge ez comp box on with the five stage in cab adjustability. Someone told me that if i do this i will smoke my stock transmission very fast. So here is question number one, can a 47RE be built to hold lots of power, or is is possible to swap it for a six speed. I wanted a manual from day one, but i got such a good deal on this truck that i couldn't pass is up. Also, I do a fair amount of towing, ( 41 ft. flatbed gooseneck) and would like more power, but even with just my superchip my egt's will hit the 1350 to 1400 mark( probed before turbo) when pulling my trailer up some pretty good grades, so my next question is whats the best way to lower my egt's with out spening thousands of dollars. 4 inch exhaust comes to mind first, but im sure that a different turbo is also going to be a must. I added another spring to my wastegate made by bullydog, which did raise my boost, but only to 26 pounds where the computer then limits the fuel, and didn't help me at all. Any and all advice would be awesome. Thanx so much

Trans & EGTs

Edge Comp with a stock Trans... BAD. You will smoke your trans. Get an after-market trans. DTT makes a great Transmission! EGTs... . I'm thinking with your 01 Auto your running a HY35-9. You can greatly reduce EGTs by installing a hybrid turbo. PDR HX35 with a 12-14cm housing would cure that. 4" Exhaust with a AFE Filter would also help.

Just a few ideas. Here are some great vendors.

So no one has ever heard of swapping an auto trans for a six speed??? Also, if i get my auto done by dtt to hold lots of power, does having your transmission this way effect the driveability of the truck, and does it effect fuel economy??? thanx for the imput :)

Auto to 6 shooter swap is very expensive. You'd be ahead to buy a diffrent truck. A well built auto is a world diffrent than the stocker. Drives more like a manual that you don't have to shift. It'll pull trailers better, feel stronger, and run cooler than the stock auto. Problem is the price tag, plan on $4000 to get one that will hold 400 hp.

If you want to lower egt's you HAVE to get rid of that HY turbo you have. Call Rip at the Source Automotive link above and ask about hybrids, he'll treat you right.

My truck is also a 01. first thing I did was put in gages, then a AFE filter and 4" exhaust, I started out with 275 injectors, but to me it was not enough, but it was safe for the transmission, Well I bit the bullet and went with a ATS stage 5 transmission, wow, what a difference just the transmission made. I saved up some more and put in some 105HP EDM injectors and Diesel Dynamics version of the Edge Comp. Had to go to a bigger turbo, so I went with a Piers HX40. . since I was putting in the Turbo, I also put in a ATS exhaust manifold. also did a few other things and now I have the truck I always wanted. . It is around 400HP and that is more than enough for me.

Guys, Sorry for the delayed response, I have been custom harvesting away from home and haven't had much time on the computer. The rest of the details on my truck. I have gaues, boost pyro(pre turbo), and elec. FP gauge all in column. I have the aFe filter system, but haven't bought the 4" exhaust. Anyone tell me how to put my truck info at the bottom by my name?? Anyways, I pull a lot, but i also drive a lot empty with no trailer as well. So if i get a really "beefed" up transmission for pulling, how is it for just driving, and does it effect mileage, etc. etc. I hate to spend a couple grand on a transmission that i am gonna hate. I really love my truck, but im to the point where i dont want to dump a crapload of money into it if im gonna get a new one with a six speed. I like realiability, and are these aftermarket trannys reliable, and anyone that has them i will take any advice info possible, including diff. prices from diff. companies. I kind of figured my six speed swap was a dead end road unless you could buy a wrecked truck with a six speed and swap out all parts at once. My other problem... I replyed to another post on this, but with just a superchip i can get up to 1400 on pyro (preturbo) while pulling grades with loaded trailer. My boost will only run 20 to 22 pounds with the superchip on the high end of 70 horse. I bought a "boost raiser" from bullydog, and found it wasn't much more then an extra spring and a way to mount it, but i put it on and had the spring very tight, and my thinking was that with the chip i could run high boost, but of course we know where this is going, the computer limited fuel very much at 26 pounds of boost. In the other post they talked about a "boost fooler", and my thinking the whole time was that a boost fooler involved an edge ez or comp, or comparable chip, but is there a cheap way for me to fool my computer without buying the expensive chip. I plan on an edge comp in the future, but with limited buget, i have to go in slow steps. Thanx so much for all the help, im learning much and fast. One other quick question, what exactly is a fass system, ive got the idea it replaces your LP, but was wondering a little detail on it. Thanx again!!!
