4bt/nv4500 in jeep wrangler - who's done it?

Im new to the site and Im currently putting a 93 5. 9 in a 96 Chevy K-3500 4x4 dually. After 7 or 8 hours in the garage today the motor is mounted.

Now the main holdup is the body lift and some other parts that havent arrived yet.

I will post up some pics in a few days but as long as you dont mind having a 3" bodylift the motor mounted very easy. Basically just did a little trimming on the metal the Chevy mounts are bolted to and drilled 2 holes and the 1st gen stock mounts bolted right in.

My motor will sit approx 1 1/4 in higher in the frame than the autoworld mounts but was a very easy deal. Just used the stock 1st gen rubbers and metal mounts that were in the donor truck.

The trans and xfer case moved back about 2 1/2 in and I didnt even have to touch the torsion bar crossmember.

I will get some pics and keep you updated soon.

I plan the whole swap to be completed in 2 weeks or less.

Also Ive seen a couple of pics on other sites and this one but, does anyone have a close up of the a/c compressor mount that puts the large gm compressor on top of the motor. Theres one on autoworlds site that shows the setup and the owner is a member here but the only pics I saw were just of the engine bay and you cant see the mount very good. Thanks JJ

Wahooo!!

Let the FUN begin! Good luck...

Of course, much of the fun is the doing if you enjoy the work and have the tools.

BTW - If you get us some pictures of your rig (as it goes together, etc), I'll get you some pictures of my A/C mounts. In my case Dawna & Ken did the conversion... I ended up switching to the hoses from the 94/5 diesel A/C, which come up over the top and are better suited to the way the compressor sits. You'll see this in the photos. There *may* be a few in my gallery, but if not I'll try and get some in Tues/Wed.

Regards,

Mark

You are an animal.

Things seem to be going very easy for you. I suppose the 3 inch body lift really helped. Wow, that was fast. I'll see if I can get you some A/C pics. Why has mine been so hard and yours so easy?

Im putting my alternater where your a/c is J. I need to use the larger compressor that will be mounted on top on the driver side of the valve cover.

Not really easy, but my truck allready had a good transmission and xfer case.

are you fabing your own mount for the a/c,or are you buying one somewhere? i will be mounting mine in the same location, havent figured out exactly what i'am gonna use as the drive pulley. still about a month away from putting my truck under surgery, will be ordering the transmission parts tomorrow, from the folks you referd me to...

I m gonna build my own mount and drive it off the stock pulleys. The hardest part will be finding the correct legnth belt when im done building. When i get that far ill post up a pic so you can see it.

thanks, i will keep a watch as your project goes. cant really see there being many issues to overcome, but you never know. .

Im back to waiting on a supply of parts. I would be mounted and have the body back on today but I got the wrong input shaft for my transmission and didnt check it till the trans was ready to be installed.

It will be 3 or 4 more days waiting on parts.

I got tha alt bracket done today as well as a good start on the a/c but I dont want to mount the a/c till the fenders and hood can be checked for clearance. With my luck Id spend 4 hours building a bracket and the hood wouldnt close. lol

If I had a good local supply of parts Id be driving it by now.

I really want to get it running so I can start with the engine mods. lol

At least I had time to get out the pressure washer and get everything cleaned up and ready for the final install.

When parts arrive Ill update the progress.

do me a favor please, post the part # of the correct input shaft when you recieve it. this way when i order mine from them, maybe i can avoid an ooops! also, does the shaft, bearing etc seem to be a good quality product? also, when you build your ac bracket, are you utelizing part of the gm ac mount,or starting over from scratch? if you are in need of a gm mount to hack up and bolt the compressor down to,i may have a spare you can have. however starting from scratch may be simpler. .

25356 35 NV4500 Dodge input shaft 22t Diesel 65. 00

18161 51 NV4500 Dodge diesel front bear retainer 36. 80

26705 70 NV4500 adapter housing 94-on dodge casting# ( C-26706) 125. 00 this is the adapter that goes inbetween the motor and bellhousing

there is also a 9$ bearing

a 5$ seal

and a 7$ bearing race

That is the correct shaft etc. .

Im starting from scratch. I built the alt setup in about an hour and when I get to the a/c this weekend I gave myself the whole day just in case. lol

thanks,i had intended to order last week, but didnt get a chance. gonna handle it tomorrow. got to get a powersteering pump from a dodge application,as my cummins engine is from a school bus. swap oil pans, get the few remaing parts i need, then find a week to set aside for the repower. man i can hardly wait, and my little 6. 5 is really getting tired!

Well after 4 hours, 2 skinned knuckles and a possible broken finger the trans and x-fer case are in thier final location. The trans and xfer moved back about 5 1/2 in. The shifter is gonna be a little tricky but the biggest worry I had was the torsion crossmember. I was able to move the torsions back 3/4" and it clears with about 1/4" between it and the xfer case. I didnt use the autoworld mounts so the mounts I built moved the motor up about an inch compared to thiers. When I went to bolt everything back up after an hour of drilling new holes in the frame I had to space the trans mount up 1 1/2" so the output of the case would clear the torsion crossmember.

If you didnt want the 3" bodylift Id probably suggest the autoworld mounts so that the motor sits down as far as possible. I guess Im just cheap.

The rear driveline has been dropped off for a little surgery and Im about 1 more week away from the first testdrive.

I did a little testing yesterday and it looks like all the stock gauges will work even without any ecm in the truck. The only things Im unsure on is the a/c and how or if Im gonna get the cruise control to work. Worst case Ill order an aftermarket cruise from JC Whitney or somewhere.

Ok the post is long enough allready so Im gonna shut up. Ill keep posting when I make some more progress.
