Yeah, I'd say there'd be plenty of elbow room to work on one without things like cab and fenders getting in your way (not that that is a real issue with them installed).

I got some Anchor engine mounts from NAPA for like $8 apiece, I think. I get the shop price, so your results may vary.

I forget what the 2wd transmission mounts look like. Be careful when you buy new 4x4 transmission mounts- I had to hunt all over town for a mount that had the steel sleeve in the center- most of them didnt. Must've been a bad batch. Got one 4x4 done just fine. The other 4x4 has one new sleeve and one reused one. Mounts on both 4x4s looked and felt like smoked marshmallows- real soft and they get HUGE when they get oil soaked.

I imagine they need new engine mounts, but I dont often romp on the pedal, esp with current fuel prices.

Hah! My mounts had the standard 1/2 inch thread! Made in India too! :-laf

They cost $25 each at Carquest.

i just got my package from rockauto, only had one mount in it!?!?! the discription said it should be a pair. so ill call them monday. the one mount i got looks good, but it says Taiwan on it.

got one question though, from a glance, i thought the factory motor mounts were set up, so the bottom bolt was pressed throught the top plate, and the top bolt was pressed through the bottom plate, so the tighter you got the nuts the tighter it would pull the two plates together. the new mount i got has the bottom bolt through the bottom plate and the same for the top. so no matter how tight i get em it will still only be floating on the rubber block? what have yall seen?

oh yea, pete... . good Gosh! you really aint messing around are you? what are you drivin now? the bed looks good man. so your going to coils? im so jealous of you, my frame is rusted to pieces and could really use a good sanding and painting, and my cab has enough rust to need replacing of some major parts at least. lookin good brother, keep up the good work. i cant wait to see it done. what color you gonna paint it. if i was you, camoflauge (advantage timber classic - rattle can special) with a stars and bars to cover the roof. ;)

Damn redneck! I like the Stars and Bars though! ;)

I'm driving my gasser trash, it was coils, green again, and did you take a breath in there? :-laf

The plates with the studs are bonded to the rubber, nothing goes thru.

Helpful hint when doing motor mounts. (I remembered these when I pulled mine out. ;))

The side with the dimple on it? Cut about 1/4 of an inch off the stud. Jack up motor, twist sideways, roll mount out of hole. The new one is thicker, (duh?) so you may have to jack a little more. Roll in, twist, start nut on the short stud, let down to start 2nd nut, snug nut on dimple side first, (it holds the mount in place) then lower. Level engine, tighten them down.

haha pete you crack me up. yea how can you go wrong with a nice reb battle flag. i actually am thinking of repainting my tool box. and covering the front (facing the tailgate) with a confederate flag, then repaint the rest the origional orang. then maybe stencile in some of the generals names around the lid of the box, in white. or might just do Stonewall on each side, and a Lee in the center of the front. :D

ah green it shall stay eh? :)

when did you put the coils in?

yea i took a breath, thanks for keeping an eye on me though ;) :-laf

:-laf

thanks for the tips on doing the mounts. i think their next saturday. hope theyll clear up my shudder, and the clunking in reverse.

:-laf:-laf:-laf yea i guess i should turn down the bluegrass and pay a little more attention. that about the only way i can bear this bright screen and all the flashy colors for more than a few minutes, is to feed my mind the calming blessed bluegrass tones. :D :-laf

well pete. just did the mounts.

dang you peter toombs!!! i did what you said. cut a 1/4" off the stud one the dimpled side. turns out that is the top stud. and the top has a washer and a nut. so the top nut is just less than flush. it would have been perfect had it been the bottom stud.

haha well its actually my fault for not noticing that the top nut would need more length for the washer and nut. all in all it went well and a lot of the chatter is gone when starting out.

thanks for the help. by the way, strang thing, the passenger side mount was upside down... and the passenger side transmission mount was upside down too, had the load bearing mount ontop? the guy that did the mounts on that side must have had some of them left hand cigarettes too :-laf

Gee, my studs were the same way, 1 thread too short! Must be you actually measured before you cut? :-laf For some reason that's beyond me, the mounts are supposed to be like that, 1 up, other down. I decided not to 2nd guess the engineer on this one, I put it back the same way. ;) I'm sure it'll be ok.

haha, yea i removed the top 5 threads off the studs. thats so crazy that their supposed to be that way. why are there two recessed dimples in both sides of the arms on the block? are you saying that both the transmission and the motor mounts are suppose to be that way?

Not sure what block you're talking about. I had 1 dimple on 1 side of the mount. Goes in a hole for alignment. I can't say on the trans mount either, the 2wd only has 1 in the middle, under the tailshaft. ;)

i actually talked to jonny from poly bushings yesterday in person about his mounts HE IS GOING TO MAKE THEM for the diesels you have to call him and commit for the first run if you want them he said pricing it going to be about 10-20 bucks more then the gas engine mounts

I just installed my motor mounts and transmission mounts today. The motor mounts were pretty weakened. The transmission mount rubber pad was all broken loose. 200K on the clock. Not bad.

I just loosened all the mount bolts completely including the transmission bolts. The motor mounts were a cinch with just a floor jack under the block. Did one side at a time. Jacked it up right, then left. Went up until it started to hit in places paying special attention to wires etc... and minding the firewall and heater box.

The transmission mount on my D250 was most difficult. Don't know if taking the crossmember off is required... but I didn't. Just loosen all you can, lift as high as you can... and sprinkle magic dust on them so they will come out.

Seriously... whom ever designed the transmission mount system should have received a D. 3 complicated plates, 9 bolts all mashed together etc... just to suppport a tail shaft.

And the new transmission mount is about as spongy as the old one. What a poor design.

thats fantastic! ill have to call Johnny about those mounts asap! thanks for leting me know this.

yea the factory mounts are really cheap and soft. they aint worth a hill of beans when it comes to a manual transmission, all the shiftng seams to be especially hard on them. the 4x4 transmission mounts are extremely easy to install. when i did my motor mounts in jacked the motor from the eye-hook on the front of the head with a hoist. pulled it right up. i think the side to side would have been easier looking back at it.

I did the side to side thing too. On the transmission, I just pulled all the bolts and jacked it up, pulled the old one and slid in the new. Then I found the thread in the nuts changed while i was busy.

My truck has been undergoing a facelift for the last two years and I put Some poly mounts from Spiva in among other things. I added a Denny T pin, 3200 governor spring, and some SDX 5x12 injectors. I fired it up for the first time yesterday and it vibrates much more than original at an idle,. Smooths out as I give it the throttle, I suspect the mounts are harder and transmit the vibes, does anyone else have this phenomonon? Thanks

I bought my new engine and trans mounts at AutoZone. I looked at everything out there... and theirs seemed to "feel" and "look" the most heavy duty and well constructed. Plus they were made in Israel. Everything else seemed made in China I looked at. I'll always avoid Chinese parts on my Dodge when possible.
