i have a 93 31ft coachman santana class A DOG! it is on IH frame. i believe the rearend is a dana 80 with 373 gears. it has a allison542 transmission and is 190 horse 5. 9ctd(#44778613) engine. it has larger injectors installed(larger than stock),but falls on her face at 2100rpms which is about 62mph. would 3k gov springs do the trick, bump the timing up, and move stock plate forward? dont know much about 1st gen. ctd. is the pump easier to work on than the 7100? any comments would be greatly appreciated. tnx denny!:(

There is no "plate" on ours. We just have some screws.

Take a look at the "VE pump" thread sticky at the top of the page.

And I think tuning the pump and getting a governer spring would definately help. Just make sure and get gauges so you don't hurt your engine! A pyrometer is necessary so you don't have too much heat in the cylinders.

Christen-

What is your CPL? Some apps only turn about 2300-2500 rpm, though the VE has been proven to be reliable to turn 3000+ for short periods. The data plate (if you're lucky enough to have one on your engine) should say 190 hp @ XX00 RPM. Once you've read from the Holy First Gen Scripture atop the forum listing, see what you can find out. The VE is much easier to work on and tweak than the P7100, to say the least- it's all turning screws. Some of us have looser screws than others :-laf. I assume you have an intercooler? IF not, GET ONE. AS if I should talk, though.

Beware of the spewings from CB Parker's keyboard; it will csot you a mid size fortune to keep up with all HIS suggestions. I, on the other hand, believe in doing it right, but without my insider knowledge and contacts, ;), I sometimes have to resort to my southern upbringing to make stuff work (just take a gander at the JB on my radiator  ). Just kiddin ya Chris; You are an alright guy, and a leader of sorts in the race for giant HP numbers and performance.

Before you deside that not enough fuel is the problem check the engine rated speed. Get a boost guage and se if boost starts to fall when you get to or close to 2100. How is the air cleaner/pluming. Is the exaust pinched. Is the transfer pump moving enough fuel. Can it get the fuel or push the fuel. (lines pinched, filter pluged, fuel cap not venting. Does the engine exessivly smoke.

phillips5 has a good point on fuel suply. You probably have an electric 12v pump to deliver fuel to the engine lift pump from your tank if it is any distance (not sure if yours is a "pusher") They can have a screen filter that can get plugged.

Daniel... don't you remember the consequences of your last smart-aleck post? I think it was a kick in the nuts... I'd watch it if I were you!

And as for power... I don't know why you guys are always talking about my truck having "power"... . it's still not THAT fast YET.
