I'll be off-line for four or five days. I won't be able to stir up or participate in any heated discussions.

I'm packed up and loaded and will be leaving this morning with some friends on a motorcycle excursion from the Texas Plains to northwestern Arkansas.

I'm jealous since the weather here in the Houston area is perfect this morning and is predicted to be great all week!! I hope to pack up the Beemer and get some riding in this fall - tough to do between work (that 4 letter word) and the wife's "honey-do" lists.

Guess you are off on the trip by now but if you get down to the Mena area, there is a extremely nice RV park about eight miles south of Mena that caters to cycles. We stayed there last year, no rowdies there. It's called Iron Mountain. bg

AWESOME roads down there. I rode there (Eureka Springs) a few years ago. The red paved roads have INCREDIBLE traction. Enjoy the ride - I know I plan on going back there again.

Yeah, with my best buddy snowflake. We're planning to get together around a campfire and talk politics!

Actually, I was riding with two retired cops, one of them is also a retired rural west Texas county sheriff. Their politics are like mine, hard-nosed conservative!

It was a very nice ride with beautiful weather which included the Talimena Scenic Drive from southeast OK to Mena, AR then north on AR-7, a very scenic winding ridge ride, from Hot Springs to Harrison, AR then over to an old Navy buddy's home at Shell Knob, MO (sw MO) including a little of the MO Ozarks.

By the time I returned home the wear bars in the m/c tires were showing and I was overdue for a maintenance service.

Glad you had a great trip Harvey. Were the leaves showing any sign of colors on the Talamina drive? That's pretty close to my old stomping ground, I was born at Ulan which is North of McAlester. bg

No, unfortunately, we were through there probably three or four weeks too early for the fall colors. The temps were nice though and the scenery was great.

I was actually more impressed with the ride from Hot Springs to Harrison on AR-7 than the Talimena but both were nice.

I love that part of the country... we usually spend a week in that part of Arkansas, then spend a week around Broken Bow/Beavers Bend Oklahoma... Those two areas ought to be part of Texas, then I would never leave the state.

We are planning to load the Lance and make Talimena Drive, Magazine Mountain, and drive AR-7 south (down hill) to Hot Springs in a couple of weeks. The fall colors should be great at that time. Our trees are just beginning to turn in northeast TX. :)

Glad you had a safe trip Harvey, that's some mighty pretty country and fun riding up there. Bet it was a blast on a bike.

I might take a weekend and drive up there myself in early November, but it'll have to be another Dodge dually trip. There's nothing like rowing your way through the mountains with the trusty 5-spd Cummins setup... :-laf :-laf
