I just received my 2 micron remote filter from GDP. The only place I can see to mount this unit is behind the starter on the inside of the frame rail. This is a well protected location but worrried about fuel gelling since it will receive little if any heat from the engine. I might install valves to by-bass the 2 micr. filter in the event of gelling conditions. Does anyone have any better mounting locations and if so pictures would be great... thanks... kts

Was wondering the same thing, would like to mount it between the factory ff/ws and the VP, but can't find any room. Thought about relocating ff/ws to the frame rail, but that gives the problem of being able to take the facory ff out, you would have to mount it pretty low, and it would stick out below the framerails. Don't like fuelcomponents hanging out in the wind. anybody have any suggestions??

One way that maybe could work is to mount the 2 micron by the starter, and plumb it to from lp to factory ff, back down to the 2 micron and than up to the VP. would add a couple of feet of hose, but don't think that would be a problem. Factory fuelheater would work when needed and I would not think that there would be a great heatloss with the xtra couple of feet of hose, it is all pretty close to the enginy anyway, might not get any heatgain, but don't think you would loose any

No good rail location

I spent an hour yesterday trying to find a location to mount the remote filter assembly. The only location that is really going to work for me is going to be inside my Ute bumper. Great location for access and mounting but will see the cold wind hitting the bumper. It will be behind the bumber but will get 0 heat from the engine. This will be great during warm periods but when it gets really cold it could be a problem. I am going to install valving to bypass during extreme cold. I very seldom if ever see those kind of troublesome temperatures in Washington. My hunting trips to the mid west are in the fall and usually stay above cloud point temperatures with additives. I would really like to find a better location but it is not obvious to me where this would be...

hey Joe,did you keep your factory FF/WS and is it still mounted by the engine??

Kept factory FF for heater and wif. Hard to see location but it's in the bottom right of this picture - follow the lines from the Walbro forward and note the yellow push locks - that's the factory unit.

DaveC - that brown splotchy stuff is the reason I don't like posting pictures of the underside of my truck. It's what happens during 75k miles in upstate NY then another 75k in Eastern PA - unless the truck is garages 6 months of the year - not.

Joe,

I remember that brown stuff from my Pennsylvania, Illinois, Maine, Vermont days. Back then given enough time it left vent holes in various body parts.

Now the plasiic interior and exterior parts melt.

I had a friend mount mine to the inside of the driver's side front bed mount.

Ended up looking sort of like this (cleaner now - hoses untwisted, etc. now that I was able to take the bed off and fix it up)

Thanks Joe, the only problem I see with my 2002 , it looks like the factory fuelfilter is different, the FF has a feedline in the bottom of the canister and the lid comes off to change the filter, so you need about 6 inch above the housing to change the filter, this would drop the canister well below the framerails, maybe I would need to by a factory FF from a "99

thanks Pete

Leaving the factory filter where it is and mounting the GDF filter on the frame is going to add at least 8 feet of hose. I can not get the filter to fit by the starter so it would need to go where Joe has shown it in his picture, but that will add 8 to 10 feet of hose. I think I am going to go with the bumper mount I will post a picture when I get it mounted. Not the best location but it will only add 4 to 5 feet of hose. The real problem will be the chilling effect but this will happen in some degree to any of these locations especially on the frame... . someone needs to come up with the solution for this problem!!!!
