Mounting large round off road lights?

Trying to save drilling too many holes... .



If you have the large round KC or copy type driving lights and an OEM bumper on a newer RAM,



How did you mount the light to the bumper?

How did you determine the best point so as to not catch the hood grill?

I know JffGrdn24 (I think that is his TDR handle) has some round lights mounted on his bumper. Maybe he will chime in.

Maybe this isn't quite what you're looking for, but here is what I have done:



I have the 6" KC's and was originally going to mount them to the factory bumper, but it didn't appear that I would be able to get the clearance between the back of the light and the grill. I then made some brackets which would extend forward about and 1" but I was afraid that the lights would be very vulnerable to being bumped, etc. I finally ended up buying the SmittyBilt Outland Sport Bumper Guard. This comes with six holes made just for this purpose. It is well made and gives the lights some added protection.

You can mount Hella 500 series lights on the bumper. They are a 6" round light only thin, they are very bright. Any 4x4 shop should have them for around $60 or online. The kit is complete with relay, switch, wiring. You can get spot or driving or fog. Sam

Ok, here is my mount, its real easy to make, even i was able to do it. Each mount is a flat piece of 1/8" mild steel coated with black primer. The bolt in the bumper is back a ways due to the metal in the bumper curves farther in then the plastic. If I was to remake them again, I would make them a bit longer. They do make the lights bounce a little, but not much. Here is a few pics.

My mounts survived going through a car with a slight warp. I straitned them, and put tham back on. One is slightly bent right now from parking too close to a concrete wall.

I love to go with an extra mount like the smitty or even the transformer but that ole consumer confidence thing is starting to roar it's ugly head again.....



I was thinking tabs like above. . My lights are almost the same thing. I do a bunch of miles on the rough dirt road so any bounce would be a problem (unfortunatly).



Anyone else??

The amount of bounce they have is very little, but here is more than if they wer hard mounted. The fillimetns will shake and vibrate a degree or 2, but thats all going dowm my washboard driveway at 50. Its enough shake in them to notice, but not enough to cause a problem.

I guess we are going to try and use the bumper bolt holes.

The challenge is getting the hole for the bolt to match up to the cover without creating the grand canyon!!
