A while back I remember reading that when mounting a toolbox in the bed of my truck I need to get some bracket from Dodge to reinforce the bedrails. What exactly is it that I need and is it really necessary. I have found a Pro Tech box that I can get for $200. It is used but in really good shape.

Thanks, Joe

Some people here swear their beds are made of paper. Mine has taken a lot of abuse (concrete chunks, gravel, 21,000# of pavers - not all at once :-laf ) and I haven't had any problems.

I have a Truck Trunk tool box on my truck (it's been on for the last 30,000 miles) and I didn't use any brackets from Dodge. It sits on the rails of the bed and has a single clamp on either side that holds it in place. I've had it off many times and haven't seen any problems. Daily it has about 150#'s of tools, tow straps, oils, etc. in it.

Now you may hear otherwise, but I haven't had any problems.

I have had a Weathergaurd rail to rail box in my truck since 500 miles, it carries around 250lbs of assorted tools and supplies; and I have had no problems with it in 46k. I too haven't used any special brackets or reinforcements in the bed, and I have removed it several times with no apparent damage to the bed. Go ahead and mount your box.

It's in the owner's manual somewhere... . I remember reading it.

The Mopar Toolbox comes with two "L" brackets that get installed with rivets to the inside corners of the bed next to the cab.

Don't know if you really need them, but since they came with the box, I installed 'em before I had the bedliner sprayed in.

I purchased the Mopar bed reinforcement kit based on the information in the owners manual. As mentioned earlier, the kit has 2 steel L brackets, 1/4" rivets, and some fancy welded J hooks for securing your box.

I have not installed a box yet so I did not install the kit. The kit does not come with instructions so you have to take an educated guess as to where to install the brackets. It is fairly obvious where to put the brackets.

In another thread I was asked to take some pictures of the kit, but I didn't get to it yet. Maybe I can get to it tonight.
