Slower traffic always moves right, reguardless of your speed.
Most young people here ignore it and I have seen them get stopped.

I guess I've been under a rock because I've never heard of that law before. Having said that, my dad taught us as youngsters to always move over to the left lane when possible and slow down for any vehicle on the shoulder. Not just an emergency vehicle.

They started it finally in Ca. a yr or so ago . About time I have 3 good friend's that work for cal trans . And Yes I know everyone think's they are a big joke but next time you drive by 1 of there cone zones look at the people there . Yes there are alot of state paid people standing around but they do so because the 1's that are working need somebody to watch there back as they work. So yeah I have Alway Slowed for the Cone Zone other's Should Also.

Florida has had it for several years for law enforcement, emergency vehilces, tow trucks, dot trucks ... on the side of the road. We have the option to move over or slow down 20 mph less than the speed limit( or is it 25).

As was I. Back when I drove commercial vehicles and was getting the blue lights for whatever reason I would contact the LEO on the CB to ask if he would allow me to proceed to a safe area before pulling over. Most allowed me to do so for his safety as well as mine. If I could not contact them I would turn on the 4-ways and slow down but still keep chugging along until I reached a safe place.



When assisting someone in the breakdown lane I place my vehicle a ways back from the disabled one at least a quarter way into the driving lane, 4-ways on and wheels cut full left. The motorist is told to watch that oncoming traffic while I change the tire or whatever and to yell if a distracted driver is not making some attempt to get over. Then run for the woods, I'll be right behind them.



We had a good samaritan lose his wife when a distracted driver rammed the car stopped behind his.



With the advent of cell phones and texting it is getting damn scary trying to work on the shoulder. This law needs to be enforced.

Its been a law here in Utah for quit a while, but just recently really applied. This year since the first of January the state lost 14 Cruisers of the UHP because people were not watching, And did not move over and crashed into the cruisers rear ends. A few officers sustained injuries. Which were few to many in the line of duty. Just notice how many of the OTRT's move over, all if they can. Lest ways SLOW DOWN.

Sorry guys... . gonna have to respectfully disagree on this one and likely take some major heat in the process. I have come to the conclusion that "Big Brother" does not always and rarely does know best.



This problem came about primarily due to police state tactics being taught in most if not nearly all police training academies. The officers are trained to pull up behind the vehicle being pulled over and overlap the pulled over vehicle in TOTAL disregard for public safety and common sense in the name of "officer safety". This type of tactic is based upon the assumption that ALL citizen being pulled over are or may be a violent felon of in possession of a firearm or some other type of weapon. Pulling up behind the vehicle being pulled over and overlaping it definitely DOES illuminate the area the officer will be approaching and provides much better lighting and visibility, BUT..... at the cost of everyone else's safety on the road.



If the police vehicles were NOT partically blocking the lane adjacent to the road shoulder or closely encroaching upon it and the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road as far as possible, this negligent and senseless safety hazard would NOT be an issue.



Yes... ... . I pull waaaay over and get out of the way whenever possible and if not possible, slow down substanitally. That is just common sense. Where common sense totally runs off the cliff is when a police officer stops his vehicle in the middle or near the middle of a highway lane or active road with little to no advance warning to others and they pulls out in front of on coming traffic without signaling when departing the side of the road nearly causing a chain reaction collision. I have seen irresponsible acts like this on more than one occasion.



Just because you are the law does NOT mean you are immune from the law of unintended consequences or physics.



This move over law should be changed to include requiring the police officer to move their vehicle off the road as far as is reasonably possible. In the mean time... ... . I don't need yet another idiotic law to tell me to move over and apply some common sense when encountering a stopped police or any vehicle for that matter.



This is yet another example of the mentality that has destroyed this once great nation... ..... everyone knows their rights and demands their freedom but almost ZERO understand and know that with great freedom comes great responsibility. Yeah..... that's the ticket... ... pass yet another law because people and those who work in government refuse, are incapable of, or covered by limited immunity from taking responsibility for their actions.



Its been the law here in TN for a number of years and no matter how many laws get passed about this, until police vehicles get pull ALL THE WAY OVER to the shoulder of the road, that "accidents" injuries will continue to happen. The highways are extremely crowded and sometimes people get trapped into a lane and don't see the police officer standing in the middle of the highway until its too late. Safety and common sense requires a concerted effort from BOTH sides.
