I'll be moving the Golden, CO in a couple of weeks. Is there anything I should do/have done to the truck before/after I get there? Will I need to get the ECM flashed to tweak it for the higher elevation?

I'm currently at about 600', and Golden is roughly a mile high.

Thank, Dan

Dan,

Someone may know otherwise, but I don't think you'll need to do anything. At higher altitude, that turbocharger really helps!

Welcome to Colorado - what brings you here? I was born/raised in Golden. Now live in Berthoud.

Welcome to Colorado! I live about 2000 feet above Golden, and my truck runs like a champ! I love running away from people up the passes around here with 10,000 lbs in tow!

BTW, you'll want to check out Christopher Dodge in Golden for service - some really sharp mechanics there, and they don't get upset when you have "minor" mods to your truck - in fact, they complement you!

Welcome to Colorado. I've lived here for 25 years now, and I don't ever want to leave. Advice on the truck, ... put fuel in it about every 500 miles, change the oil once and a while, point the front bumper west, push down on the throttle, and hold on.

You could even visit Wyoming!

You won't have any problems with the engine out here.

Welcome to the west, you'll never want to leave.

Most cars nowadays are equipped with a MAP sensor. Which measures Altitude and the ECM will act accordingly. I am not sure our Rams have a MAP sensor, but I would bet my paycheck its got something similiar!

Coop,

You’re going to love CO. I used to live there before moving to New Mexico. I miss living in the mountains—I could snowmobile right out of my garage, almost. I sold my snowmobile (Summit-X) when I move to NM—just about cried.

If any of you CO guys are down around Albuquerque, give me a holler.

Thanx, all, for the quick responses. I knew the Turbo really helps, but I wasn't sure. Now time to look into a 4X4 6-speed... . :)

Didn't see that your's is a 4x2. Definitely look into a 4x4.

Good luck with the move... moving sucks.

Here's my take having always been at High altitude... .

Your boost will be lower and EGTs higher. You won't notice any lose in power but won't be able to stay in the throttle as long w/o getting maxing out EGTs.

Maybe the best thing to help your year 'round driving in Colorado is to trade your 4x2 for a 4x4. Other than that, I would say you made a substantial upgrade in locations from Indiana (no offense to other Rammers living there :D:D:D:D ).

Yes, I agree it is definately an area improvement. I grew up in the area, so when I left the service I went back there. Only 2 places I wanted to go to leave, Denver area or Central Florida. Either way, I'm looking forward to skiing!!! :D :D

Coop - Give me a call when you get here... 303-885-2875. I don't live far from Golden. I'd be glad to get together with you and tell you about my experiences with this high altitude.

As far as having to "Do" anything to your truck for this high altitude... nahhhh your truck will be fine.
