Moving to Oregon, Where to buy Diesel?

Hello,



I'm moving from Idaho to Grants Pass Oregon next month and always use Flying J Diesel here. I've never fueled up in Oregon so I'm not familiar with their fueling laws first hand. Could anyone recommend a place in Grants Pass for Diesel (I see there is no Flying J close by) and explain the Oregon fueling laws for me? With prices as high as they are I'd like a place with quality fuel at a resonable price.

Welcome to Oregon! I do not know what is availible in Grants Pass as far as card lock or comercial fueling stations. Oregon law says that you cannot pump your own gasoline... thats the law. what I have found is that 9 out 10 stations think that applies to diesel too so they fill it up and I don't have too. Most truck stops you will be filling it yourself, most service stations will do it for you.

you may look into pacific pride they were (before the navy took me outa oregon for three years a bit cheaper than regular service stations. and i know there is one of those right near where you merge on the the 5 to go towards medford.



my recruiter came out of grantspass. is that what you are over there doing? i dont know if i have anything to say to ya then

Yes, I'm a Navy Recruiting Zone Supervisor. I'll be in charge of the Navy recruiting offices in Grants Pass, Roseburg, Coos Bay, Medford and Klamath Falls. My office and home will be in Grants Pass.



How long you been in the navy and what you doing in iceland, what's your rate?

good thing i held my tongue huh. from the sounds of it you are a bit important. i have been in 3 years now. did two undesignated years on the uss sacramento waiting to go to school. not a total loss. i earned my warfare pin while i was there as an undes. so now i am here as an ma3 collecting this cola and dumpin it in my truck

Nope, not very important except to my wife and kids. I'm an NC1 who's been in 17 years hoping to make Chief this year (actually been hoping to make Chief for several years). Sounds like you've had a productive three years so far. You getting out soon or going to stick around? I'm looking for young motivated Petty Officers to Recruit in the area so stop in and say hello sometime. We'll see if we can get you a job in Oregon for three years.



Regardless, would be nice to meet a shipmate and fellow TDR member when you're in town.

oh no i couldnt do that to anyone i am kidding... . i would say mine was honest with me. cant complain. i dont have it in me though. i am not much of a salesman. i have a year left to do, and the day cant come fast enough i dont have to button them 13 buttons and tie that neckerchief i dont have any regrets about doing it though. it was a good experience and soon its gonna pay my way through school.



did you make board this time up? oh man i feel for you if you are one of the guys who always makes board. i feel for them. have you always been a NC, or did you cross over back in there somewhere?



you will like the area you are in. i cant wait to get back. well if it all goes the way its spose to i will do what i can to stop off in the beggining of september.

I understand completely, the job is not for everyone.



I was an Aviation Electronics Technician "AT" for the first 15 years in the Navy. I came to Recruiting at my 12 year mark and could not make board as an AT working out of my rate for so long (and not willing to put in the extra study time required to catch up). So I switched over to Navy Counselor "NC" and have made the board both times since. I hope this is the year.



Have you considered taking advantage of Tuition Assistance while you're in and getting some of the general education requirements knocked out? There are a lot of Distance Learning Schools that make it easy for us in the military to attend school around our work schedules.

As suggested, since no FJ near you, Pacific pride will probably be the next best bet - they lately tend to be located on or near a Texaco station site, most likely sell the same fuel, and price in Oregon on past trips has the PP price about a dime less per gallon than the Texaco it's usually next to...

I fueled in Grants Pass yesterday. The best price I saw was at the Fred Meyer fuel outlet, and there was a line waiting at the diesel lane all the time I was there suggesting they do a substantial volume. They were right at 10 cents per gallon lower than most service stations.



I used Pacific Pride for a couple years and allso CFN (stands for commercial fueling network I think). In both cases everytime I checked, I found that I was paying 2 or more cents per gallon more than the better prices I was seeing at the pump-----one great example was the CFN outlet at Quartzsite Az. where the CFN and the regular retail pumps were sideby side. I noted the retail price and when I got my CFN bill, I paid 3 cents more per gallon than had I paid retail----not more than 15 feet away.



Ray; welcome to Oregon. I lived in Medford for over 30 years and worked the courts in Grants Pass many times. We moved to the coast on retirement, only because wifes Dr. suggested she would do better in clean, moist air.

I left the Navy at the end of four years as an RD1, in 1957. Most people a bit surprised to learn that in late 56 and early 57, I spent several months in Viet Nam, or more accurately what was becomming Viet Nam after it had long been French Indo China.

I currently use CFN and my experience is the same as Vaughn's, the only saving grace is that my local CFN jobber allows a 3% discount if paid within 10 days, so it evens it out, but you aren't going to save a bunch of money with CFN or probably Pacific Pride. In fact, last time I used the CFN in Grants pass (the one on 199 west of town) I noted the retail price and when I got my bill it was something like $0. 10 more per gallon for the CFN pumping out of the same tanks! Probably Vaughn's observation of the Fred Meyer pumps is going to be the best for you.
