Here's my fuel mileage at just over 8K on the clock. I have recorded all fuel purchases in my computer, so these are hard figures, not guesses or wishes.

About 6K of these miles have been "non towing" with a large percentage of "in town" stop and go (this is my everyday drive vehicle). I've made 4 towing trips of about 1600 miles total.

Overall average after 8K: just under 14MPG.

Towing: 11-12MPG (this is on the West Coast (Washington / Oregon) with lots of hills)

Just completed a trip of 550 miles from the Seattle area to the Tri-Cities area (Eastern Washington). This includes crossing the Cascade Range going and coming. I intentionally keep my speed down to 60-63MPH with the cruise control set. This was solo (no trailer) with 57gals fuel (to start) and no load except my 5th wheel hitch. Overall average was 18. 3MPG.

These results are about the same as my 2001 2500 NV4500 CTD. The towing MPG is a little better in my 2005, but the "in town" stop and go is a little less then my 2001.

As you can see I have a 2WD Auto with a little more than 1700 miles on the clock, just filled up on Friday and got 21. 58mpg (hand calculated). My driving is back and forth to work apporx 30 miles one way about 1/3 in town the rest freeway with 1/4 to 1/3 of that heavy stop and go. I am hoping once she is broke in my milage will increase. I will be towing 10K down to southern Az this weekend not sure what to expect mpg wise.

That's pretty good mileage. Mine only has 5K on it so far and is better than it was but hopefully will still improve a little. I won't be towing until I head for AZ after Christmas but I have been using my slide-in camper all summer and this fall. Going 60-63 is where I get the best mileage too. With the slide-in it averages 15 mpg which is almost exactly what my '96 averaged with the same camper. Both trucks with 4:10 axles. Empty I get 17. 5 going the same speed, 16 if I go the speed limit. The '96 got better mileage empty in town, around 18 vs the '05 which won't even get 15 stop and go empty.

I think your empty freeway economy will improve with more miles on the motor. I have 32,000 miles, and on an empty trip to Columbus (about 150 miles) going 70 MPH the whole way, the overhead showed 19. 5. The trick is in the right foot (keeping the boost low). If you read enough of these MPG threads, you will see that I am VERY leary of people posting high economy numbers. Don't expect to see better than 20 MPG, unless you're willing to do 55 MPH.
