I have an 04 2500 stock except for duals and a Goerend TC/VB upgrade package. Only 30k miles. Love it! My neighbor has a Duramax that he chipped with no other mods and the mpg went way up! I am looking for a recommendation for a chip that is designed for efficiency and possibly slight power increase. I do not tow heavy (less than 4k #) and am fairly conservation on the throttle. The Goerend mods made this a completely different beast. Power really gets to the ground now. I wonder if the Smarty on the first or second setting would be what I need? Thanks

It's all in how you drive any horse power upgrade. If you use the new power you get, you'll use more fuel. If you drive it the same speed as before, you'll get better mileage. Simple as that.

i think the smarty on one would be your best bet. i have had the bddl and the smarty i get about 1 mpg better with the smarty than i did with the bd.

plus if and when you decide you want more power and still don't want the dealership to find out that you have a chip. its all there.

just my . 02

Do a little math to suit your situation. The chips aren't cheap. How many gallons of fuel could you buy for the price of the chip and how long is the payout? Are they really an economy measure? Nope!

I'm trying to convince the wife it's time to get Piers camshaft. It's been reported to gain 2. 1mpg. Payoff at $3/gal is about 30,000miles.

is your friend with the duramax just going off his computer, or is that hand calculated? often times, the chips or boxes will screw with the mpg reading on the computer. As for me, my comp does nothing good for fuel mileage in town, but on the highway, it did help by about 2 mpg if i drive nice :-laf

I had the Edge Juice installed for almost 2 years now until I starting having problems and sent it back to Edge for diagnostics (still awaiting response from Edge). After removing the Edge my mileage went up from about 16. 5 to just over 20mpg (using Level #1). I drive around town, work, stores, etc. on Level #1 which is Edge's MILEAGE setting. When towing I set it to Level #2 TOW. While towing ~12k# flat gooseneck trailer I got 10. 5mpg... . the worst mileage I ever got towing with Edge set to TOW. Can't imagine what driving around on the EXTREME setting would give you!!!

Now, in Edge's defense, the power is awesome! Truck was dynoed at 778 ft-lbs at the wheels on Level 5. But you can't tow with #5, and shouldn't or really can't drive around on level #5 so why bother to have it???? I find myself doing 95% of my driving on level #1 MILEAGE, 4% on TOW and maybe the other 1% or so on Level #5 when showing off. With diesel hovering at $2. 50/gallon, and for such little time I use Level #5 I can't justify keeping it when it gets sent back to me.

So... bottomline..... I'd stay away from Edge if you are looking for mileage!!!

I know this is off subject a little but could you tell me more about your TC and Vb upgrade? That is the exact thing I would like to do to my 05.

Thanks!
