8. 77 mpg running 26K gross with the truck in my sig. This is hand calculated & I tried to top the tank off the same both times. There was a strong head wind for most of the trip.

I am happy with these results!!! :)

We usually get around 9. 5 to 10. 5 MPG with the rig in my signature running 65-70 MPH. Much better than the 6. 5 I got with my 1996 3500 V-10 pulling a 36' 5ver that weighed 3000 lbs less than the current one.

I usually get close to 12. I have calculated by hand and 13 several times. I think it is how big of a hurry I am in with of course the headwind. The chicken slide helps me also.

Okie,

Just to help the MPG comparison, my 5th wheel has a 16,000 lb GVWR with actual GVW running around 15,000 lbs which puts my GCW somewhat in the same ballpark (over 22K lbs) as the original poster's. What does your rig weigh?

Rusty, I am a little under 20k. I hope people can look at the weight and even the gear ratio and see some of the difference in milage with what I have and some of the other guys. I think with the weight you and some of the folks are moving the milage is not bad at all.

I get 9-11 towing our 33' 5er, and we are typically grossing at 20-21k depending on what toys are in the back. I'm never in a big hurry when towing, but never holding up the pack either.

I'm glad to see these results. I weigh around 17k gross, just finished a 2500mile road trip. From So. Cal to West Texas and back, I avg'd around 10. 5-11mph, hand calculated. This was around 75mph, usually around 1100egts, 20lbs boost, 2000rpms in 6th gear. The trip computer avg'd around 13. 5 mpg.

Jdakin, wow that's awful good mileage for your weight. I must say that I used less fuel on the way back home, (tail wind). I haven't filled up yet so I don't know the mpg's yet.

Horsepuller - I would be more receptrive to your hand calculated MPG than the trip computer. From what I have seen and read, both would be doable, but the hand calculated more common with that load and speed.

Do you think that fella could get 21 MPG with over 11000 pounds load?

Why not?? Some of those Powerstroke guys do it all the time and are quick to rub my face in it. Hey, after all, they wouldn't lie, would they? :)

I guess maybe you are right. We know a Dodge guy would not lie either. ;)

Last time I checked I was getting 10mpg running 12k @ 65mph.

Rusty those Double Trees 5er's are nice units. They were just a little out of my price range though, lol.

I think fuel mileage in our trucks has to be the most variable thing for one reason or another... unloaded or loaded.

It's interesting when people stop at the gas station, rest stop, etc and ask about the truck. When I tell them I get 16-17 mpg empty, they don't believe me. For some reason, general public thinks diesels get like 35mpg or something

My 98 has gotten an honest 24. 5 runnin 58 mph empty,drops to 21 @ 75

regular get 18 around town all accelerating easy.

I just pulled my fiver south at 11,600 gross and got about 10 1/2. When I have my truck camper on and weigh 11,580 I get about 14. Empty with a tail wind and running 56 I can get 23 or 24 out of it. When you want it to go to work you have to figure that it will require some extra fuel. Rob

A Ford PSD getting 21 mpg pulling a 5er?... ... ... . I drive one for work and can't get 12 empty. We have 4/7. 3s and 1/6. 0 and the 6. 0 will get 16 empty if driven carefully. The 7. 3 I drive is the best of those, it's a 2001 c/c 350 srw auto 3. 73

I like giving the boss a hard time about it. :-laf
