MPG Shot up at 15,000 .. Not complaining..

Oo. First off, I DO hand calculate everything to the last drop... Truck will turn 15,000 miles today on the way home from work. In the last 1,000 miles or so my mioleage has really picked up!! I was never unhappy with it, but it sure got better!! I have always pulled hard with it on weekends with my trailer so that shouldn't have a huge impact. I have also run PS/MMO mix since new, so nothing new there.

Using the AC doesn't seem to matter, we have been over 100+ last 1000 miles or so. Only work done has been reflash for long crank TSB, and New Water pump/Thermostat.



My 06 is a TWO wheel drive 3. 73 with the 6 speed manual. On freeway I always set the cruise at 65 pulling or unloaded. Same driving habits etc...

I change the fuel filter every 5,000 OR after an out of state trip if I had to get Diesel at a mom and pop store rather than a big chain ( Flying J etc)...



Over head is readin 2 MPG higher than my hand calculations...

Your numbers are consistent with my 04. 5, but I get maybe 1 MPG less due to the 4WD. Sure makes it hard to consider a 6. 7L that gets 14-15 MPG.

I agree, thats why I sold my 04. 5 in the first place. Wanted one of the last 5. 9's! This one gets the same as my 04. 5. But they are equipped exactly the same. .

I don't get that good of mileage. My truck is a 4WD, DRW, 3. 73, 6 speed. Can the 4WD and DRW make that much difference?

Yes it can. I have heard that the 4x4 adds weight to the vehicle plus the extra moving parts even whil in two wheel drive?? I have little experience with the 4x4... Dually definately makes a difference. If you had the Auto would be worse!

I'm getting 17. 5-18 MPG consistently running empty. That's with a 07 3500 regular cab 4X4 doolie.

My 12 month old 2006 3500 4x4 auto DRW Laramie just hit 15,050 miles and my mileage jumped too! Like you, I hand calculate every tank. No this not a 1 tank fluke... I have run 4 full tanks now. Like my 99, the overhead was always 2 mpg too high. My around town mileage has always been 12. 5 mpg. Now I have been getting 14. 5 mpg... and of coarse the overhead says 16. 5

I recall on my 99 2500 auto 4x4... the mpg went up at 10,000 miles. Plus when it had only 1,000 miles I towed my 10,000 lb RV from PA to Florida and back. Mow with my 06 I was waiting since 10,000 miles and no mpg increase. Now at 15,000 it jumped by 2mpg, just like my 99 did. I think my 99 broke in sooner because I did all 65 mph driving for 2-6 hours per say. My 06 is an around town truck... . she finally did break in.

I hope mine starts getting better soon. I'm past the 15K. Can brands of diesel effect mileage?

I think that the fuel quality has gone up recently, my MPG has gone up in the las few months.
