Hey all. I am back in MO for the summer, and have limited net access. Mom has one of those TV boxes- good for email, but cant get to these forums except when I go to a friend's house. Got 11 mpg on trip here from Loveland to Poplar Bluff. 24' flatbed GN trailer, car on it stuffed to the gills, plus all the rest of our stuff strapped around the car. Figure a GVW of 19-20K. Went 65ish the whole way. Unloaded the trailer, and mpg went up to 14, then a decline. Got them tested for FREE at Bootheel Diesel in Sikeston MO- popping 500- 800 psi low. Got them cleaned and recalibrated for $100, included new copper washers and horseshoes. Made a BIG difference in performance and mpg. Got 16. 5 last fill up, hot rodding (laid a 30' black mark in town by Wal Mart) and smoking. Now have AFC wheel up with one thread showing, and seem to have gained about 2-3 more mpg (plus driving more sanely). I may break 20 sometime soon. Point is, it sounded ok, but was dripping the fuel into the cylinders instead of making the fine mist it is supposed to make. Buddy of mine wants it now. This is Chevy country (and the 454 is KING of power. ) ANd the average IQ is 95 among that crowd. I mean, there is intelligent life here, and we all drive Cummins power, with two stroking exceptions) I told a few guys at work that I would like to see a gasser outrun, out pull or outaccelerate this stock diesel. So far, no takers. Anyone know where I can get that sticker that says "The Heartbeat stops here"? If I end up keeping this pickup, I will want a gear vendor for it. I should be able to afford a used one by July 4. I am working for a fertilizer company for $8 an hour ( convert to $12 for CO) and about 50-70 hours a week. Shoeing school should be by august, sooner if I put off BOMBING. ANd throw a wedding in there sometime, and I will have a busy summer.
Will chime in as time permits.
