What do you tow with?

With my truck, trailer and Jeep is weights in with a combined weight of 13,000 lbs. which is not alot. I get anywhere between 13-16 MPG.

I've got 9000miles towing. Have had truck 10,000 miles. I tow 97% of the time now. I pull 6K cargo trailer 16x8. 5x8. 5 tall. All towing is in town stop light to stop light. It seems like I can NEVER catch a green light. LOTS of shifting and accelerating.

MPG

I have been hauling a 3500# camper and towing a 8 to 9000# trailer. My combined weight is between 18,500# and 21,000#. I had been getting 10 to 11 in my BOMBED 1995 2500. I am now pulling with a 2001 3500 ETH and after 7 to 8. 000 miles the mpg is the same as it was in the old truck. I have seen almost 13 but this is secondary roads at 55 mph. The normal towing I do is at 70 to 75 mph. I know from experiance that at 55 the rig gets beter mpg. I am very impressed that the 24 valve gets the same mileage as the 12 valve. As the 12 is a standard cab 2500.

I now have a little over 11,000 miles on this truck. I tow a 28ft 5ver which weighs loaded around 9K (lots of storage left yet) and I tow a fishing boat behind the 5ver which weighs around 2000 lbs. My CGVW is right around 18K with everything hooked up. When the truck was brand spanking new, towing just 5ver into a 35mph head wind on winter fuel I squeaked out 9 mpg. A month later with 5ver and boat connected I averaged close to 11 mpg. It seemed the closer I got to the magical 10,000 mile mark, the better the towing milage. The last two trips out I've averaged 13. 2 mpg. My speeds are between 60 - 70 mph. I voted 12 - 14.

Just got back from my first pull with this truck. 4,537 Miles from home to Vancouver BC to Canadian Rockies to Kennewick Washington and back home pulling about 13K tall 5th wheel.

Got 13. 6 on nice days, as low as 8. 8 in a hard cross/head wind. A cross wind seems to cause about as much drag on my trailer as a head wind.

RAMalama - I live in them thar hills and know them well. Coming home with tanks near empty I could accellerate up the Lawrence Welk grade and hold it at 65mph with a little left over. :D

Our 3,000 mile round trip to May Madness this year pulling a 12K 5er I had an overall average of 11. 8 mpg. Mike Brolin has pretty much the same setup as I do and the mileage was the same. Both trucks are 2001, 6 speeds, 3. 54 gears stock. :D

I'm pulling about 11k. If I keep it down around 65, I can get 12 mpg. If I stomp on it, it drops to around 10. Hell, a V10 can'

t get 10 empty!!

Well, actually an unloaded V-10 can get about 13 MPG at 70 MPH on the Interstate. :) Of course, that drops to 7. 5 MPG towing our 5ver! :(

First trip with new Dodge, towing our 12,550 lb 5er (loaded for trip) drove from home in NE Oregon to Abbotsford BC and back (total of approximately 3500 miles on the trip) averaged 12. 4 mpg. Second trip pulling the 5er averaged 12. 5. These figures were caculated after each fillup and compared to the trip computer which were usually within 1/10th of a mpg to the actual mileage. So far, the mpg is better than our "96 4X4 Dodge RAM with the 5 speed manual transmission. Interesting difference in that our 96 Dodge did better mileage wise running empty (21. 5 mpg compared to the new Dodge @ 19. 5 mpg) but turned in worse mpg performance pulling the 5er.

Pulling a little over 9K the worst I've gotten is 12mpg bucking a heavy headwind. Almost every tank towing gets me 13. 7 mpg.
