Went to far N. W. Alberta & hauled back a generator. CGVW 19,500 coming back. Stayed at 2000 rpm or just under for most of trip but lots of hills & gravel. 21. 25 mpg US. with 4:10 gearing & a dirty AFE I think that is excellent & am most happy. Leaving for Toronto tomorrow 7,000 km round trip, empty going down so will get a real good reading;)

OK, nuther dumb question, ( I must be missing something) What year model truck do you have? Is it an 04, or an 04. 5? It must be there, but I do not see it. Sorry!

I wish I could see those 20MPG + readings..... But, no such luck for me. I ran empty over the 4th to my summer home in Wisconsin running about 73MPH with my cruise control on most of the time, RPM's were just a little over 2000..... all I could pull was 18. 3 MPG (Hand Claculated, my over head said 17. 8 MPG). I'm not complaining either, I think that are good "Real" mileage numbers. I know it is a hell of a lot better than my old V-10!

There goes that "funny math" again

I had not planned to do so, but I may as well join in... .....

... ... ... . 22. 7 miles per gallon, (652 miles, 28. 722 gallons, 22. 7 mpg hand calculated) is what the good old Cummins got on one tank of fuel on the trip to Myrtle Beach, SC this last week. Not too bad considering I ran the A/C continuously, was in the mountains on I-75 to Knoxville TN, I-40 thru Asheville, NC, and I-26 & I-20 in the Carolinas, all while maintaining 80 mph (just 10 mph over the posted speed limit) 95% of the time while on the interstate and factoring in about 60 miles of "city" driving. I'm guessing the weight of everything was around 8,100 pounds. My truck only has 16,512 miles and I can't wait to see how it does around 20K or 25K. My 2001 Dodge Neon only gets around 30 mpg, and, needless to say, the RAM 2500 CTD was a lot more comfortable.

mpgs

My truck is getting better mileage here recently, initially it was around 12 mpg with a small percentage of towing and all in town. On my last tank I got 15. 95 and it seems like it is still climbing! I am very happy with this mileage considering my truck.

I'm not sure where your filling up but... 652 miles using 28. 722 gallons is phenomenal :--) You used only 28. 722 out of a 35 gallon tank. What did your gauge read just before filling up? Was it on empty? Are you sure you didn't click off before you completely filled your tank? 22. 7 MPG pulling a load is pretty hard to believe dude. I’m going to need a lot more convincing. LOL ;)

Fill-up

I'm with Cliffman on the fill-up topic. There is just too much room for error if the tank is not completely topped off.

I liked one of the methods (can't rember who posted it) somebody here uses. Start with a topped off tank, run 5 tanks with whatever fill it takes, and then top off again.

This seems to be a good "overall" mpg method without having to top-off every time.

EEngel & Cliffman :

I'm anal about my fillups. EVERY fill-up is topped off until the fuel cap comes in contact with the fuel when it's screwed back on. {Is that consistent enough for your requirements?} The low fuel light had been on for a bit, can't recall for sure, but not too long. And yes, I spend the last 9 to 11+ minutes pumping in that last 3. 5 to 4. 5 gallons to achieve the complete fill up. I have purchased the vent kit from DKelley and have not installed as of yet but will do so very soon. My '00 RAM 2500 was such a breeze to fill up... I miss that most about my '00. I apologize to those of you that can't seem to believe it, but it's true.
