Eh?

No offense meant, cuz, but eh? You're mixing metaphors. Little more info, please.

Don't know what you mean about Canadians sticking it to you. What does 28 miles per U. S. gal. mean? That sounds wonderful!

Canadian? You mean 28Km per gal? That makes sense. I avg 17mpg with 3. 73, 4X4 quad, 2004-555 auto. I drive 60/40 hwy/cty, and drive at 70 on the hwy. This is not pulling anything on fairly flat ground. I have been real happy with this. Oh ya, no whining from me or my rearend;)

I have been driveing Dodge-Cummins since 93. none of them ever got 20-30 mpg towing, IT AIN"T HAPPENING!! Older trucks did better, the best ever was the 93-19mpg empty on a good day. I dont know why you people keep blowin these big mpg numbers,to **** us other guys off i guess. Honest 13-14 mpg avg. empty. 7. 5-9. 5 towing.

I can only speak for myself, but I am very pleased with my MPG, and know that it has been an issue on some trucks. If I am having an issue with my truck, armed with knowledge that other trucks are doing better I would be back at my dealer having some discussions about what to do to fix it. I don't look at this exchange as rubbing someone's nose in it. I can also say that I have not coasted downhill for 40 miles and reported that mileage.

It seems to me many factors affect MPG, from tire pressure, to transmission to driving style to temperature to head winds or tail winds to how you use the truck. I own a Cummins for the increased fuel economy over my 99 1500 that would pass anything but a gas station and for the increased power. I don't own a business or haul several thousand pounds of stuff every day.

My mileage numbers are indeed honest, and not a setup to achieve a number that is not sustainable.

Uh-uh!

Doldenburg, we wouldn't do that, or at least I wouldn't. My mpgs are what they are, so I guess you'd have to say it's happening. Sorry your mpgs have been so consistently lousy. Maybe it isn't the truck :)

The almost $300 I spent on a my Escort Passport radar detector was some of the best money I have spent on my truck. I think it's paid for itself on every long trip I have taken, and paid for itself a couple of times locally. X band, K band, Ka band and laser. Didn't change any settings and have run it "stock" since I bought it. The CB purchase also ranks up there with the radar detector. $200 for that and it has paid for itself as well, though there are a lot of idiots with CBs who make it aggravating sometimes. I haven't got a ticket since I bought them, though I was pulled over and given a "warning ticket" for doing 72 in a 60 just west of Sepulpa, Oklahoma. The detector worked, but it was after midnight and I was slow on the foot.

I own an Escort and the Valentine One. The Valentine runs circles around the Escort which I have since handed down to my son.

I enjoy the feature of "how many" radar signals, and Where Are they?

In front of you, beside you, or behind you.

That extra bit of info is real valuable for me. If it is behind me, and I only hear the beep as I crest hills... ... push harder on the go pedal.

I have a lot of neat stories about this unit, but unless asked won't bore everyone to tears. :D

Lasers will get you!

You guys haven't come up against a laser gun yet. They can point that narrow beam and pick one truck out of a hundred.

I have. Twice it's been at the scene of an accident so they weren't out to get anyone. The third time I was near cresting a hill, behind a few cars (and doing 15-20 over the limit) and as a car ahead of me got to the top I got the laser alarm. On the Escort/Passport it sounds like the ringer on an old time phone. As I crested the hill I saw the motorcycle cop out in the middle of the street, taking his laser shots then retreating back to his bike. He didn't take off after any of us. The fourth time was just a couple of weeks ago in Kansas. A motorcycle cop was on the left shoulder of I-35 with the laser gun. Lots of cars and trucks on the road. Kansas being flat, I saw him from about 3/4 mile away and knew he was a cop. By the time I got between 1/4 and 1/2 mile away I had the alarm, thanks to all the other cars ahead of me. Laser's a tough one, but it's not impossible to beat. The big weakness with it is that it is a tight beam that needs to be focused specifically and also has to be used from a stationary postion. The literature that came with the detector stated quite plainly that you need to react as soon as you get a laser alarm, and even then it might not be quick enough, if you were the target to begin with. With laser your best bet is to be in a group of cars, with more cars ahead of you. It doesn't mean you have less chance of getting caught. It just lessens the odds your truck will be singled out for a beam.

Speed comparisons

As a former pilot, I can tell you that the difference between average speeds isn't that great. For instance, a plane flying at 140 knots per hour won't be far ahead of of one flying 100 knots per hour. On a given trip of, say, a few hundred miles, the second plane will be landing by the time the first plane is tied down.

Same thing holds true for driving the speed limit. A person who busts his butt driving 20 miles over risks a ticket, increase in insurance, etc. , and for what? So he can arrive 5 minutes before the person does who drives the speed limit?

Me, I'd rather kick back and enjoy the ride. The mpgs are also better that way!

Just picked up my truck on Friday in St. Louis. Started at about 14 MPG and now have 1000 miles on the truck and getting 15. 8-16 MPG. Not too bad considering I have the worst truck for MPG. I'm extremely happy with the truck so far. Installing Pullrite hitch using Klenger's instructions and will most likely do the BrakeSmart controller as well. Line-X is going in next Week. SWEET!!

Suggestion: make arrangements with the installer for to apply a commercial thickness. That will let him know that you know installers sometimes "cut back" a little if people aren't watching.

I'd also suggest the over-the-rail application. Looks good and protects with truck better.

Thanks I plan on getting the over the rail. I also told them I am going to be hauling large stone and brick etc... I will stay with the truck till it is done.

Ditto Jeremiah... ... and I still question some of these figures being posted. Like I said on page #2... . 13-14 around town and 16-18mpg on the road. These are real number that are hand calculated.

high mileage

Was talking about 28 mpg and I said that it was in U/S gals which are alittle smaller than our imperial gal . I believe that a good part of the problem is that it has had a since new a BAD APPS that cry - slurr and Cumins couldn't figure out . The other thing that I see is a poor voltage to the pin 5 of the vp-44 pump this could be allowing the FPCM to be shutting off the fueling early and cutting the fuel to the engine. Any one that is able to measure their APPS check to see if the on and off - idle is seen by the ecm. hIGH RESISTANCE I think will change the operations of the transistors for that circuit.
